What Guests Say About Their Stay

This hotel was just as excellent this time around as it was last time we stayed here. It was sold out while we were here as the Charles Dickens festival was going on. One thing to be advised with this hotel is that there are no lifts as it it is an older hotel and is grade II listed so there is no requirement for it to do so. That being said it does have three floors of rooms with about half facing directly to the ocean which means you could have a little or a lot of stairs to contend with. So if you have a disabilty that does not allow for stairs be conscious of that when booking. My partner had a heart condition and it did not occur to me to ask for a room on a lower floor at the time of booking (that was on me) so the first night we ended up on the top floor. A room which I have to say was absolutely lovely if it weren't for all the stairs you had to climb! The view of the town was beautiful from up there though. They were extremely kind and were able to partially accomodate us on the second night and move us to a second floor room which I am grateful for as the climb was not as strenuous. Nice pub and restaruant and sensational outside seating to watch the beach and sea. Breakfast is delicous and piping hot and well presented with a nice continental for those not wanting a hot breakfast. And being centrally located in Broadstairs it made it really easy to visit the town. About a 20mins walk downhill from the station or you can take a bus called the 'Loop' part way down

Both my wife and I found the hotel faultless, we only wish we’d booked a few more days to enjoy being in the hotel. It has to be taken on board that the hotel is about 200 years old, so consequently the structure of the building doesn’t support having a lift. Charles Dickens stayed there, his house is next door Dickens‘s house, but with nine children a wife and a maid in such a small house he found it better sometimes staying in the Royal Albion. You go to sleep listening to the waves breaking on the beach, you wake up to a stunning Seaview, strongly recommend.

Breakfast was excellent. Freshly prepared. Continental breakfast was extensive. We had a town view which was fine. Surprisingly no road noice so we slept well. Room was clean and bathroom was sparkling. Bed was very comfortable. Only observation would be that the shower was over the tub, and that's fine except that the tub was very tricky to get into especially for older people so having a way to get in and out easier would be nice. Tons of space in the bathroom though especially at the sink so it we had a place to put toiletries which was nice. Overall a nice stay and will come back. Will save up so we can try an ocean front room next time.

Staff could not be more helpful and were always happy & willing to talk to guests. Food in restaurant was exactly what I have come to expect from Shepherd Neame Hotels and Pubs. I had room on 1st floor with access to roof terrace which had an excellent view of Viking Bay and the Sea. I found room very quiet at night with only the sound of the sea to be heard in the background.

The view was great and the room was good but the slope of the floor meant that the bed wasn't level! There are no USB sockets for charging. Had full English breakfast one day which was disappointing. Low quality bacon which was stone cold. Had something else the next day and it was lovely.
