Overall we were happy with our stay. The outside if the hotel and grounds are pretty, the food in the evening and morning was to a very high standard. We stayed in a very good sized suite, which pleasantly surprisingly had 2 bathrooms with matching showers, toilet and bath. On the whole, the staff were polite and accommodating to our requests. The reason for 4 stars, there were elements of the room and dining room which could do with some tlc. Paint chipping off skirting boards, damage to one of our baths. And dining area cleanliness wasn't as pristine as it could potentially be - stain on curtain where we were sitting, stain on breakfast menu card, cobwebs on upper wall towards ceiling and stickiness and coffee stains on edge of bar. There was at least one wedding happening in our time there so totally appreciate staff were busy but there were frequently times when staff were standing together near bar, yet there were multiple tables, inside and out, which hadn't been cleared of dirty glasses etc. And given there was a fridge in the room perhaps it would have been a nice touch to have fresh milk for tea coffee and for the complimentary water to be in the fridge too. All in all, it felt like this hotel had so much potential to be outstanding but it was in need of management with high standards to give it the care it deserves.

Beautiful historic hotel in a countryside setting, just a mile from a mediaeval village. Very nice restaurant on site.

Perfect overnight stay before getting on the train to go to Europe. All the staff were super friendly. The grounds are lovely and I would definitely book it again.

Great service, especially the young man who ran the bar, waited and seemed to do everything expertly. Delicious food, catering for dairy intolerance was appreciated. Lovely relaxed scenic grounds and flowers. Mews room on ground floor was nice. No fridge or AC in room but no issue. Would definitely return!

Parking and layout of venue good. Very friendly and helpful staff. Menu was divine for dinner, lounge and breakfast - gorgeous food and locally sourced. Outdoor games available - croquet, petanque. Bed very comfortable.

Perfect stay

The hotel looks nice and the public areas are well kept (apart from the dead flies on the windowsills next to the tables) the attention to detail needs work. The rooms however do need some attention from the management. Poorly maintained, very dirty and unkept. Disappointing for a hotel at this price point. The staff are all very nice and are the hotels biggest positive.

Nice property and Staff were excellent. Pillows were poor and bathroom should be upgraded for the price.

Worth the stay for the food only. Great chef, fabulous food. One issue with room very well managed by staff and fully resolved. Well done.

Although some areas could take a lick of paint, this traditional country house hotel was just what we wanted pre our Le Shuttle journey. The staff are an absolute credit to hospitality, the food is delicious and the bed was comfy, great shower pressure and peace and quiet plus safe parking.

A nice stay in a very comfortable room. The hotel is beautifully situated & the history of the building is very interesting. Breakfast was tasty & staff were attentive. Will be staying again, in future.

Beautiful setting…

We came for a few days at Christmas and it was wonderful. The chef was very accommodating to my daughter’s gluten free requirements. The food was wonderful and the staff were especially kind and attentive.
