Location, location, location! It appears to be under a complete makeover, which it needs, it will once again be the magnificent lodge it once was.

We were upgraded to a beautiful room which was appreciated although it lacked some finishing touches such as a reading lamp and closets. The restaurant was disappointing- food was mediocre. Beautiful location.

A stay at Painter’s Lodge feels like stepping into a legacy. Once celebrated for its refined elegance and five-star reputation, the lodge still carries echoes of that storied past, rooted in the era of West Coast sport fishing. Today, the experience is more understated: the room is clean and comfortable, though the property shows its age and would benefit from thoughtful revitalization to fully restore its former grandeur. What hasn’t faded is the warmth of the service. Staff are welcoming, creating a sense of care that elevates the experience. The highlight is breakfast at the pub on the deck; fresh, delicious, and paired with sweeping ocean views; an easy, memorable moment that reminds you why this lodge still holds its charm.

Breakfast was tasty but not very hot. Facility feels very tired. Lots of repairs and landscaping required. Previous guests snack crumbs were all over the porch, tables not wiped down and matress covers ripped and fraying at the corners. We were put up in the Quadra building which is closest to ongoing construction. Noisy and a construction dumpster just a few feet away from our balcony. Not great.

Stayed at the Painters Lodge last night so this is fresh. Cabin 20, huge lemon pledge smell when we walked in. 1/2 hour later when pledge eased off it smelled like death. Door lock didn’t work. Black Ants in a few rooms. One bedrooms comforter had a gorgeous blood stain. Such a shame. This place used to be fantastic. Hope new ownership gets better but I doubt it. Told the front desk this morning and in a rehearsed “oh sorry about that” he gave no f$&ks. Couldn’t recommend never staying here more. -1/2 a star!

This was our second stay at this hotel. Our first experience was so good, returning was a no brainer. The front desk lady was very lovely for check-in. Our room was updated, but clearly it was a room that previously had pets without adequate cleaning afterward. We had quite a bit of pet hair on our clothing after a couple of hours in the room. Thank goodness none of us have pet allergies! We needed help a few times for simple things (only two towels in the room despite booking for four of us, request for more tea, etc) and the staff were very helpful. One of the times we went to the desk for help, we couldn’t understand the attendant at all despite her friendliness. Might be good to have staff with stronger English language skills on the desk. We did eventually get the help we needed, and she was super sweet. We just had trouble understanding each other. The property needs a thorough clean. There was trash blown all over the green space of the property. We understand that renovations are currently underway, but the trash was mainly from housekeeping and chunks of styrofoam. Not great near the ocean. The pub was great, and the young waitress we had was incredibly friendly and good at her job. We enjoyed board games in the lounge both evenings. We enjoyed the live music that filtered our way from the pub the second night. We will go back again for sure, but not at high season, as the price point would be too high considering the experience we had this time around.

This was originally a well built fishing lodge: it's not a luxury all inclusive. It's being updated but the character will stay. Breakfast is a la carte and we didn't patronize it. Once it's finished, we would come back if prices weren't higher.

We watched whales from the balcony within minutes of our arrival. The staff and restaurant were very good. It appears that the hotel is addressing needed upgrades/repairs, but that did not interfere with our stay.

Space was clean. We had an upstairs ocean view (which was beautiful) and the space was big and comfortable. They’re in the middle of renovations which we’re really excited to see when we go next! The staff were all very nice and helpful. The pool was warm and they have a little changing cabana and shower (heated water) on site. There is a washer and dryer available near the laundry and currently costs $3 to wash and $3 to dry, which was very convenient. All in all, I’d recommend the Painter’s Lodge and will definitely be back. Especially for the chocolate cake!
