First off the staff were lovely and so helpful. The hotel itself could do with more attention to detail - we got a free room upgrade but only because the toilet seat came off in our hands first use. Second room was very spacious but there wete issues - its an old building so we were expecting uneven floors - leaking showers not so much, flickering lights when first switched on. A lot of the communal areas really needed some TLC - its location to Newbury is very good - we were using the hotel as a base for visiting Highclere and enjoyed wandering round Newbury highstreet.

I’ve stayed here before and the rooms have always been okay but this time my room was poor. The curtains were hanging off the hooks, there were cob webs in the corners and a whole in the wall. The room felt really musty and claustrophobic. I was going to ask if I could swap rooms but I didn’t have time before I had to leave for the evening. It felt like the room hadn’t been used for a while. I booked a cheap room so I didn’t have to get a cab home by myself late at night however the rooms location and it’s condition didn’t feel very safe. Breakfast was nice but staff could have been more welcoming.

Hotel was spotless, very easy to get around, close to the town centre, and the racecourse is within walking distance.

Good location in town centre, parking on site, very nice friendly and helpful staff. Food & drink good. Nice decor and room tidy. Only complaint - room was on the front and noisy with traffic - requires double glazing and better coverage curtains to stop car lights. Traffic is light but the windows are old and offer no sound reduction. But I would be happy to stay again - in a different room.

Room decent size although tired, bathroom in need of refurbishment (shower rail loose) shower runs hot and cold. Great location for the town with on site car parking.

Nobody on reception when I arrived - eventually found the receptionist in the bar. Parking availability isn’t guaranteed as a hotel guest because the car park has very limited spaces, shared with bar/restaurant patrons (and Xmas party attendees). Money has been spent on modernising the ground floor but that’s where any investment seems to have stopped. You go up the stairs to the first floor and even the carpet changes from contemporary to 90s parents living room. Wasn’t asked how my stay was on departure, otherwise I would have told them the water in the shower went icy cold twice that morning when I was trying to use it. Generally offers less than the refurbished Travelodge rooms, or newer built Travelodge and Premier Inns in the town centre.

Been a regular guest over the last 4 years due to work. Great location, friendly staff but the condition of the rooms has only got worse. With some money spent on it could be excellent.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Not the ideal place if you have lots of luggage, no elevator and lots of very narrow stairs. Overall a nice place for a short period of time, food was good
