We thought the room was lovely. Well decorated with lots of nice touches. The two staff I spoke to were polite and helpful. Our room had a lovely view of the beach. The parking was quite easy in the multi store in the precinct. The room was clean but could do with a few finishing touches, like for example a hole in the floor which had been filled in but not finished off properly. The bathroom needs a blind at the window. The shower gel bottle in the bathroom was empty. Didn’t have breakfast so cannot comment on that.

In it's time the hotel would have been very regal but although clean and tidy it is in great need of refurbishment. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed, easy chair, desk and tea/coffee making facilities. An ironing board and iron stored in a cupboard with plenty of coat hangers. Overall we enjoyed our one-night stay at The Royal.

Probably a beautiful hotel once upon a time but sadly no more, really showing it's age. The room I stayed in was possibly one of the worst I've ever stayed in. Very, very poorly renovated, with a loose toilet seat and rubbish under the bed. Bar staff came across as quite rude, with reception staff not much better. I wouldn't stay there again

Disappointing to say the least… The only positive to this hotel is the location. The tramway gets you straight onto the sea front, just around the corner is the high street. The hotel lobby and hallways had very vibrant coloured carpets and lots of mirrors, which is quite disorientating. Despite there being lifts there were still stairs to navigate. Not ideal for prams and wheelchairs. The staff member at reception was helpful, he allowed us to store our luggage before check in. Once we got our room it was tiny and was meant to fit 2 adults, a 2 year old, a pram and a travel cot. We had to request a new one. Once we got our new room the space was much more suitable, but then we started to notice a lot of problems with the room. There was a half open jar of pasta sauce in the bedside drawer, also a scratched off scratch card in the drawer above it. There was a lightbulb missing in one of the lamps, shaving cream on the mirror, the sofa had all sorts of rubbish underneath the cushions… old baby wipes, a marshmallow, all manner of dirt and crumbs too. Underneath the bed was a Greggs cup. The bathroom wasn’t much better. The floors had dust and hairs and the window was being held open by a Monster can. We asked for the room to be cleaned again and pointed out the issues. All they seemed to do was remove the pasta sauce and scratch card. We expected the hotel to be dated, with the age of it. We did not expect it to be dirty. Would never come here again, do not recommend.

There was a complication with a Double Booking in my name & then allocated a small Twin not the Suite that it stated on Paperwork? The route to our Room was very complicated & meant we had to drag a Huge Suitcase up & down a lot of Steps!! The room was very small & obviously not cleaned very well before we got there as there was a huge empty Water Bottle left on top of the Drawers & some paperwork left by previous guests!? The Room & Bedding did have a slight damp smell which didn’t assure me it was very Clean? Also there was a Dog in the Room opposite that repeatedly Barked at night!!

First hotel with a pool where you have yo pay to use the pool ! which is very small. The hotel is very old inside , thick carpet throughout makes it smelly. The room is clean inside, bathroom is clean but old. There is a carpark very close to the hotel (Palm court) at an extra cost. It's centrally situated , near shops and restaurants.

We would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We complaint about the following, a boarded up window in the bedroom, the other windows were filthy; the bathroom light above the mirror did not work and there were crumbs in the draws. The general housekeeping was poor. When we complaint to reception they said we had been upgraded to the room from a standard and that they thought the broken window was on the second floor not room 326. They could not move us as they were fully but but suggested if we waited someone might cancel. We booked for one night as we were going to a concert so we were not going to stay in the hotel to wait to see if anyone cancelled. The gentleman on reception said we could not get a refund. It cost us £212 for the night so it was not cheap. Photographs can be provided.

Amazing old building, wonky floors everywhere, proper faded Victorian grandeur, however... The room was roasting, even with a fan and the pillows were hideous, like trying to sleep with your head on a rock, after one night and stiff neck and shoulders in the morning I went to Poundland and bought 2 pillows so I could get some sleep.

The pool is payable and really naff. It costs £20 for 2 adults and 2 kids (both under 5). Food is good and breakfast was good too. Room decent but incredibly hot.

We love the hotel and its previous grandeur. I think some guests expect too much of the hotel but all the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. This is an iconic building and hotel in Scarborough a fantastic east coast location should be cherished as a gem in progress

No parking, but that is mentioned on the hotel website. The nearest NCP was a 5 minute walk (Balmoral Centre). The hotel is in a good location. Staff on reception are helpful and friendly.

The staff were lovely, breakfast was excellent, the restaurant didn't open till 6pm, so as we were going out we ordered bar food, which was ok, tasty but nothing special, convenient for us though.again the staff were lovely, We asked to change rooms because of a small problem,it was done without any fuss. It is slowly being renovated and just had lovely New windows in the lounge, some of the rooms need updating and the secret balcony could do with abit of TLC,, but it's a beautiful old building, and as we've been staying there for 20 years,we will continue to stay there,

Awful disgusting dirty hotel. Bedding was dirty, we asked for clean bedding and they left it outside the room on the floor without knocking. Cobwebs, stains on carpet and walls, hairs on the seat . mould the bathroom, didn't even shower , slept in our clothes. Went for breakfast and walked straight out, dirty cups and plates. Just awful Don't wate your money booking here.
