Mai Tai is a stunning labour of love and so well thought out. As a solo girl traveling for the first time, reviews I had read about this retreat turned out to be true. Andre went above and beyond - as he does for his guests and his guidance is immaculate. He curated how I could visit the Daintree and Great Barrier reef and organized my tours for me even before I reached there. He even came to pick me up and drop me off from the airport - which was incredibly thoughtful as I wasn’t able to organize a car last minute. Mai Tai offers you a private window into Daintree’s wonders with the Australian Green Tree Frog, Olive Backed Sunbird and some spectacular orchids making home there. An art lover’s paradise, the property is curated with several pieces reflecting Balinese architecture and is rich in its forest heritage. You have total privacy, even though the rooms are close to one another, I could not hear anything the entire time. The jewel in the crown are Mai Tai’s two dogs, who are ambassadors of their hospitality and lovingly wait for you to play endless rounds of fetch with them, and a cat (whose attention you’re going to have to work harder to get!). I honestly don’t think you could replicate the joy, rest and beauty that Mai Tai will add to your trip, it feels like home and changes your experience and understanding of Port Douglas.

We spent nine wonderful days in the Hibiscus Suite and couldn’t recommend Mai Tai Resort more. The property is wonderfully remote and private - most days we felt like we had the place to ourselves because we visited in January (off-season). There were occasional showers, which actually made the temperatures comfortable and added to the peaceful atmosphere. The resort is adults-only, making it perfect for recharging as a couple. The pool has a wonderful view over the rainforest - a beautiful spot to relax between excursions. Location-wise it’s perfect for exploring the region: quick access to Mossman for everyday shopping and about a 15-minute drive to Port Douglas for clothes, souvenirs and tours. The Daintree National Park was the absolute highlight of our trip, and a very special moment was our proposal on Four Mile Beach - unforgettable. We booked a snorkeling trip from Port Douglas (highly recommended). André, our host, deserves special mention - knowledgeable, attentive and always ready with tailored recommendations and help. His hospitality made the stay effortless. If you want privacy, a peaceful adults-only base for exploring the Daintree/Port Douglas area, and a host who truly cares, Mai Tai Resort is an excellent choice - especially if you can visit off-season for fewer crowds.

12/28/2025 Spent four wonderful relaxing days in mid-December 2025 at the Mai Tai Resort. What a spectacular location high in the hills of the rain forest with views of the valley and the Coral Sea. How nice to enjoy breakfast on the veranda in the morning and take in the views. And the breakfast each morning was healthy and light with a variety of cereals, breads, jellies, and local fruit. I’m a coffee drinker so especially enjoyed French Pressed coffee each morning. I stayed in the Hibiscus Room, which was a rear facing room that was very quiet and isolated. The Balinese style runs throughout all the structures with the furnishings all direct from Bali so if you’ve ever been to Bali, like I have, you’ll appreciate the authenticity of the décor. Can’t say enough about Andre' who is the perfect host. He made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. He’s very knowledgeable about the area and offered many suggestions on what to see in the area. The two places I enjoyed the most were the Australian Chocolate Farm and the Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery, both close by. The Chocolate Farm is great for a quiet lunch and the chocolate is some of the best I’ve ever had. The winery offers wine tasting and bottles for purchase. Will definitely stay at the Mai Tai next time I’m in Queensland. Dennis

Attentive service from a gracious host - nothing we asked for was too much trouble. Comfortable clean room with a king sized bed, crisp fresh linen, nice toiletries and gorgeous interior design. Close drive to Mossman where we went to the Saturday market, Jambal Gallery and Beechwoods Cafe. 15 minutes drive to Port Douglas. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in the deep pool with views over the mountains.
