Hotel La Tonnarella was fantastic! I stayed here for 8 nights total and had zero issues. It was about a 15 minute downhill walk to the city of Sorrento which was not bad at all and made it easy for us to get around. If you do not want to walk, the hotel will gladly call you a taxi which is about €25-30 to get pretty much anywhere around Sorrento. The room was clean but fairly small which was no issue since we spent most of our time outside and the beds were comfortable enough for a good nights rest. Mornings can get a bit loud due to people slamming doors but nothing that ruined the stay. The entire staff was great, especially Annalisa the receptionist. She was very responsive and helpful to all requests. The hotel gives you access to a private beach which is very convenient and easy to get to. You can rent chairs or can just go for a swim for no cost. Overall, I recommend this hotel if you want a quiet, comfortable, and relaxing hotel to stay at during your time in Sorrento.

Beautiful hotel on the cliffside near Sorrento with amazing views of Mount Vesuvius and the coastline. It is about a 15-20 minute walk downhill (and then uphill back) to the main strip of restaurants and shops, but we were able to easily walk there and then usually opted for the quick taxi ride back. Daily breakfast had a lot of options and the staff was very attentive and helpful.

The staff are friendly, the views amazing, the roof-top restaurant top notch. Annalisa, one of the concierges, arranged for a day trip to Capri, and not only was it less expensive than doing it ourselves, but she arranged for every last detail including the transportation to and from the dock. We had a wonderful stay at LaTonnarella. The location is magic and our room and dining terrace has marvellous views of the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius and Sorrento at our feet. The food was excellent and the waiting staff better than wonderful- GianLuca, the marvellous Michele, Ferata and Alexandra. Our room was cleaned and service promptly each day by Rosario. There is parking available which is an added bonus. The peace and pleasure of our visit will stay with us for a long time and we look forward to coming back.

Great harbor view

At a friend's recommendation, I once spent several nights at this inn about 25 years ago. Recently I was doing some professional travel in Europe and decided to return here to pass my birthday. It did not disappoint. This town and this little inn are simply magical. My room had a tiny balcony with a sweeping view of the Gulf of Naples, the town of Sorrento, and Mt. Vesuvio. I didn't get to use the balcony as much as I'd like to have, due to the weather, but it was nonetheless an idyllic five-night stay for me. I will never forget my last look down from that balcony on Easter morning (when good weather finally returned), watching the seagulls gliding on the breeze and hearing the church bells' sound carried up to me on that same breeze. The property is beautifully appointed. The food is outstanding. The staff is wonderful. This inn, the town where it's located, its staff, will always occupy a special place in my heart. It's magical and perfect.

Everything was fantastic!

The hotel has its own private beach, which was so convenient and relaxing. We enjoyed it every day. Be prepared to walk at least 20 minutes into town on a hill. Also budget for taxi transportation on the days you don’t want to walk back up the hill. Overall, the hotel is quite lovely and all of the food and drinks that we had were delicious. The communication with the staff was excellent.

Great location and customer seevice

Hello, We absolutely loved the area and thought the hotel itself was gorgeous and very clean. Unfortunately, our stay was overshadowed by an ongoing issue that made it impossible to sleep. From the moment we arrived, we heard very loud and consistent banging noises coming from the walls, which we believe were from the pipes. We reported it to the front desk, who did come to our room and confirmed they also heard the noise. We both agreed this was not coming from another resident, and this did seem to be from the pipes. However, they explained that maintenance was unavailable until the following day and nothing could be done in the meantime. While the staff mentioned this was something they had never encountered before, the fact remained that we were left in a room where restful sleep was impossible. This was extremely disappointing, especially given how beautiful and otherwise enjoyable the property was. Because the issue was unresolved during our stay and significantly impacted our ability to use the room as intended, we kindly request a refund through Expedia for this reservation.

I thought this place was great! private beach with elevator to the bottom, food was good, service always friendly, close enough to walk into the action of downtown but far enough not to get hassled by it. Top of the hill views can't hardly be beat. Parking is somewhat limited so don't go thinking your big family reunion is all going to swing Escalades into the parking lot.

The stay was good. The view in the dining area where breakfast was served was amazing. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Different types of eggs - hard boiled, fried, scrambled. The pastries were amazing. They had this croissant with a custard filling that makes my mouth water while writing. Our room did not have an ocean view which I understand would’ve have cost more and most of the reviews suggested getting. Our room did have a large private balcony which was convenient for drying laundry. Now for the negatives- the main annoyance was that the AC (air conditioning) only worked when the room key (like a credit card) was in the slot, which meant that if we were away all day, the room was quite warm when we returned and then it took hours to cool down. Now I understand the rationale for not using electricity when no one is there but the hotel had the AC blasting in the hallway continuously which to me would seem to negate the cost saving to keep it off in the guests’ rooms. On this trip, we stayed in several hotels (Venice, Rome) where the AC was on in the room continuously and not on in the hallway. We really appreciated a cool comfortable room after being in the heat - Sorrento was only about 26 C (80 F) but the humidity was 76%; Rome was 37 C or 100 F. The other annoyance was the sit down shower - it was a bathtub with a hand wand for the shower. It did have good water pressure but sitting taking a shower was weird.
