Beautiful hotel. Lovely breakfast. Restaurant staff were fabulous. Reception staff seemed a little bit hassled & were generally a tad abrupt with guests on check out. Concierge very helpful. £40 parking is quite steep bearing in mind it isn’t particularly secure. The spa is lovely, but hotel guests are limited on when they can use it without paying £70 a head extra - this wasn’t clear prior to arrival. Times are 7-9pm & 8-10am. We had a dinner reservation in town at 7.30pm & needed to leave early for commitments at home. This meant we had a very limited time to enjoy one of the draws of the hotel. Gym is open 24 hours and is well equipped. Treadmills - one was out of order & the second of three was running slowly when we tried to use it. Overall a great stay, but I would expect that for the price paid and the rating of the hotel. The niggles wouldn’t put me off staying again, but they might make me look elsewhere first.

Amazing experience in every way!!! The spa is so relaxing and elegantly done , the rooms are lovely , the staff is gracious, i only wish we could have stayed longer !

Really excellent service in delightful hotel . Bath is a fascinating city and the hotel is easy walking distance from all the historical must sees and excellent range of restaurants .

Great hotel, lovely staff. Only two draw backs were the towels were like sandpaper and the spa (due to only two two hour slots for guests without paying extra) was quite crowded

Such friendly attentive staff . Good breakfast and beautiful city . Only downside was noisy local youths disturbed my sleep two out of three nights

Our room was at street level and as a result, quite noisy with people and traffic going by as well as workers in the alley operating loud machinery. Otherwise, the room was fine. The spa was lovely and Shoua, the massage therapist was excellent. He was very strong and did a great, deep massage.

Great location & lovely hotel. Only small issue is parking - dropping off and finding car parks is difficult in Bath!

Very helpful front desk and valet

The spa was wonderful. The rooms are clean and the staff is very kind. I believe that they want to ensure you are comfortable. But, they are working with a property in need of maintenance. Our air conditioner worked the first night, but the next day we couldn't get the temperature below 24c/75f. After two attempts to fix it, they moved us to another room, where we discovered another guests gift wine, cupcake and greeting. Not a tragedy, but not assuring either. We got our new room pleasantly cool, though the thermostat never moved from 22c/72f. And it was definitely cooler than that. 2 out of 2 room temperature controls malfunctioning. A five star hotel to me, will get the details right. I didn't leave The Gainsborough with that impression, and it certainly wasn't the relaxing few days I had hoped for.

Disappointed that the spa was only available to guests between 8am - 10am and from 7pm-9pm. Other times was a charge of £70ppp day. The hotel is lovely but a couple of notes: floor tiles all cracked in our bathroom and the bathroom layout meant access to the shower over the bath was a negotiation and would have been tricky if you weren’t fully mobile. In general, great location but at the price I’m left a little disappointed.

The breakfast was fantastic, fabulous choice of food and juices; staff were so helpful and attentive. Spa was a welcome treat, after a day of exploring the city; again, staff in spa were so helpful. Room, as rest of hotel, was spotless. The windows were rather old and hard to open ( to air the bathroom, after a shower), but the building is relatively old. The private parking was expensive, but only a short walk from the hotel and we knew the car was safe and secure. All in all, a wonderful stay at The Gainsborough, will definitely return; was a wonderful experience.

Had not realized it is the only hotel in Bath that has access to the hot mineral springs. They block off two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening where hotel guests can come and go as you please and use the Spa with access to the hot tubs, infrared sauna, steam room, ice baths and pool. It was excellent!

Absolutely enjoyed our stay at this hotel! I highly recommend it if you are visiting bath, it is right in the center of everywhere you need to be. And also it is right next door to the thermal bath spa. My only complaint is when we booked it it said we had use of the amenities of the hydrotherapy within the hotel. Getting close to our booking date we received information about it letting us know when we were allowed to attend. We were restricted from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. I do understand it is to keep the quiet and ambience of the spa however those times didn't entirely work for us so we did not end up getting the full experience we were hoping for. However our rooms were beautiful, the classical music that played in the rooms was an added touch that I didn't even know I would enjoy! I do highly recommend however I hope in the future there will be more clarification on the Expedia and website of the hotel that explain it has extreme minimal time usage throughout the day.

Great property in a central location - perfect for a weekend visit to Bath

A lovely, clean, modern hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast options were vast and tasted great. The spa facilities were plentiful. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. Overall a fabulous hotel that we’d definitely stay in again.

Great location and nice hotel but not a 5 star. The concierge and doorman were the best staff members, very helpful and nice but others we interacted with were not great, especially in the bar and restaurant. The spa and thermal waters were nice but very crowded.
