My wife and I are active octogenarians.This is an excellent hotel for us, for a short break. The staff are genuinely friendly and the decor comfortably slightly old fashioned or traditional. Family group of hotels, well run. Parking adequate but note to reserve if you have blue badge. Food is excellent and breakfasts are brilliant, the menu extensive. This nice hotel is a favourite with us more mature Devonians. Enjoy! Ps. Very clean and ensuite bathroom very good.

I wanted two single beds as we were down from London for a boxing event, The room had a double bed, I gave the bed to the boxer and I did my best to sleep on the floor, The breakfast was good but to expensive I thought, Charging London prices

A last minuet birthday break for my wife. Usually like contempory hotels but this quaint beautiful hotel was amazing. Beautiful decor comfy bed and amazing staff who could not do enough for you. We had milk in the room instead of using the pot cream... they even brought a little fridge for in and on the next night the fridge had a new bottle of milk.. absolutely amazing staff. 11 out of 10 and thank you for making our stay so pleasurable. Will hope to return. Thank you RP.

Very clean hotel with a character and lovely design. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is fine. Nice place to stay.

The room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom was fantastic. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Loved the canapes with our pre-dinner drinks!

Staff excellent

I really like this hotel, and would suggest it to anyone visiting from overseas as a good example of how things used to be done. The building is older and has all the quirkiness that comes with that. The room I had was reasonably spacious and well appointed, very clean, nothing to really pick fault with. The common areas downstairs are traditionally decorated, well maintained, and display the history of the location well. They are warm and inviting. The real thing about this hotel is that the service element is still there, from reception, to the bar and into the restaurant. Staff are plentiful and attentive, and it all adds up to a very civilised experience. I ate in the restaurant and the food was good, with a decent wine list. The room price is reasonable and the restaurant price is possibly at the high end, but the quality is there and the service and overall vibe made it worthwhile for me. It's all a little posh, but in no way stuck up.

The Imperial was ;lovely, well run hotel with excellent staff and food with one exception.namely the bread used for toast and sandwiches is very thick (approx 8mms) and not in keeping with a hotel of this quality. It should be replaced

The food was expensive for what it was my husband had a burger & fries which was £24 & £3 for a shaving of cheese. I had Salmon £24 but must say was lovely..Breakfast was very nice & well serverd…everything else was good..

Nice hotel. Staff care a lot and are very attentive - some good banter and nice to see some personalities. Breakfast was a little expensive but very robust portions. Will definitely be on the short-list for my next stay.
