As a pub, the Red Lion is a typical Hall & Woodhouse inn offering lovely ales and decent food. However, our bathroom had evidence of the previous guest in the loo with blue cleaner fluid trying to hide it. The shower toiletries were empty. The room guide said breakfast started at 8am. When we went down it was in darkness. We found the chef in the kitchen who was very kind and apologetic and said he doesn't start till 8:30. We went back at 8:30 and was greeted by a surly waitress. The breakfast was very tasty though. So we understand that hospitality is suffering and staff retention is tricky. But when pubs get it right they are wonderful and when they get it wrong, this is what happens. Such a shame. Fine for a drink and food. Don't bother staying though.

On the morning of our check out there was a power cut and the shower flooded overnight leaving the bathroom smelling like sewage. This meant that we had no internet to find our way to durdle door, could not use the shower, didn’t get breakfast, and our electronic devices could not be charged. Whilst we appreciate power cuts are not in the control of the hotel, the staff’s reaction to the power cut and to the flooded shower tray was unhelpful. They simply stated these things happen and said another room’s bathroom was flooded. No discount was offered for the inconvenience or lost amenities or apology was given.

My bedroom was slightly noisy over night, as it was adjacent to the kitchen with its freezers or other machines, working through the night. Really enjoyed my stay there, staff extremely helpful and building was very clean , inside and out . Would definitely stay again.

I've stayed here multiple times and it is a gem. Located close to the Bovington Tank Museum it has cozy rooms and a wonderful pub with a solid menu, including being extremely good for people with food allergies. I have celiac disease and having several gluten free options (e.g., starters, entres, deserts, beer, etc) at a small hotel is unexpected. The staff is also extremely nice and helpful and even put together a gluten free tradiitoonal breakfast to go since my train left before they opened breakfast.

Good parking, very friendly helpful staff. Room could do with an update, we were above the kitchen which was very noisy, hence we had to close the windows. This didn’t cut out very much noise and also made for a stuffy hot uncomfortable night.

Double room was clean and pleasant. Restaurant menu had lots of options and was served quickly and piping hot. Breakfast was lovely and my poached egg was perfectly cooked. Large parking area and gardens and the atmosphere in the bar in the evening was very pleasant. Quite isolated so not possible to walk anywhere in the evening. I was made very welcome by everyone.

Apart from the brilliant bar/restaurant staff, this was probably the worst "hotel" I have ever stayed in - especially for the money. The food was barely edible, and the room (number 4) was beyond tired. The bed was uncomfortable, and the room was right next to some kind of air conditioning unit that was noisy and made sleep impossible!! The shower was hardly functioning (more of a dribble, than a shower)... Breakfast was overcooked and poor in the extreme. Not the sort of evening you need the night before a business meeting. Lovely staff and great location for our activities. Price was great value, but reflective of the age and condition of the property. Included breakfast was good, and the lady serving breakfast on the 4th August was lovely. Thank you 😄

The road noise was a serious issue for us, particularly as we had requested a quiet room. But the service at the hotel was mostly fine.
