My husband and I just returned after a 3 night stay at the Alt for our first visit to St. John's. We were very pleased with our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to St. John's. The location was great with easy walking distances to the many great dining options the city has to offer as well as the local sites such as Signal Hill. We enjoyed a great harbour view in room 326. The rooms at the Alt are compact but very well appointed and the bed was really comfortable. The restaurant, Terre provided a high quality dining experience and the Cafe had great coffee and baked goods. The staff at reception were helpful, friendly and very accommodating and although they were all lovely, Jane was particularly wonderful at providing great customer service. We would definitely stay there again; many thanks to everyone who made our stay a great experience. The Aitkens

We arrived in St. John's EARLY in the AM from Potland, Oregon. We were excited to be in Newfoundland for the first time ever, but really tired. We asked for an early check in, not expecting it could happen. The front desk staff were super friendly and did get us in quite early. We were able to shower and rest before exploring the city. The room was amazing! It was right on the inlet, where the ships come in. We were able to see all the working activity on the boats, in the picturesque fog and bay. The shower had one glass wall with a huge puffin on it that was so cute. The Bella Pella toiletries smelled heavenly The bed was really comfy, especially the pillows. I gotta get me some of those pillows! We had yummy breakfast at the Terre restaurant, right in the hotel. I recommend the fish cake benedict and toast and jam. Wonderful stay and I wish it had been longer than one night!

Highly recommend the Alt Hotel! The front-of-house staff are amazing; they actually remembered us by name in passing around the property. We skipped the harbour view upgrade knowing we'd be exploring ports and coves all day long. As it turns out, Room 217 still offered a small partial view of the harbour, so that was an unexpected perk. If you've visited Alt Hotels, you know the shower glass is a wonderful feature — and the puffin in the St. John's room is fabulous. The bathroom features great lighting, a waterfall shower, and Bella Pella products (love seeing Canadian brands supporting each other). Regarding other reviews about the underground parking. Sure, it's tight (built on rock, after all), but the hotel is upfront about it. Stick to a compact rental car and skip the big "free" SUV/truck upgrades. It's no tighter than major cities like Montreal or Toronto, and they do have a few exterior spots if you genuinely need them.

Stayed here 3 nights at the start of a 2 week self driving tour of Newfoundland (husband and I). Central downtown location. Easy to drive to see local sites or take a whale/puffin tour. Rooms have sustainability in mind and are nicely and uniquely appointed. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only downside is in building restaurant not easy to book (we did not eat there) and Cafe sold out of food early. We did have one dinner out at a nice local restaurant and used Uber Eats for the other 2 dinners.

The Alt Hotel is a great place to stay in St. John's. The location is right downtown, which was nice for exploring the city. Everyone at the front desk that I interacted with was incredibly kind. Bailey and Jordan were especially wonderful. I also ate at the Terre Cafe and Restaurant (located inside the hotel), and both the staff and the food were great.
