Fantastic hotel in a great location. Only issue was that one of the pools and the aroma room in the spa were closed and unable to be used. We weren’t informed of this prior to stay. Overall thought a fantastic place to stay with friendly staff. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel and spa are good, but they fall short of what could be a truly excellent guest experience. There are a number of missed opportunities throughout the customer journey. The main issue doesn't appear to be staffing levels, but rather inconsistent training, a lack of management oversight, and insufficient quality control checks. That said, I would return. The spa facilities are enjoyable, the building is impressive, and there is plenty to like. However, I would avoid dining in the hotel restaurant for breakfast or dinner and would probably skip the bar as well. There are numerous excellent alternatives just behind the hotel and across the road that offer better value and service. My advice to future guests would be to check carefully what is and isn't included in your package before arrival, research the parking options in advance, and make use of the valet parking service if it suits you (£30 per day). On arrival, ensure your room has a TV remote and that the complimentary refreshments have been fully stocked. Unfortunately, requests for missing items seemed to fall on deaf ears during our stay. One final surprise was the room service tray charge, which felt excessive and was higher than I've experienced in some luxury Mayfair hotels. Overall, a good hotel with the potential to be great, but one that would benefit significantly from stronger management attention to detail and service standards.

Great location and a real wow factor when you arrive. Room comfortable and well proportioned. Easy access to shops/bars/reataurants. Only real disappointment is restaurant. Had breakfast twice and felt very average - poor service and food ok but not great. Shouldn’t be hard to run breakfast but al felt a bit shambolic. Had contemplated eating in restaurant in evening but v glad we didn’t. Felt a bit like airport lounge or premier inn breakfast.

Pool and spa use very expensive. Could get a better deal on the day . Wasn’t made clear at the start this extra charge . Scanty fresh fruit and bakery on display no one topping up .Our room was overlooking noisy air con units in use all night .

The room had a single wardrobe that was totally inadequate for our 5 night stay. The staff were very helpfull. The outdoor pool was very nice. The breakfast was very good but the management of the restaurant during breakfast is poor for a 5 star hotel.

This was our fourth stay at the Crescent, our first under Champneys’ ownership. As locals we are invested in the building, having followed its restoration over the years, not least with considerable financial help from the county and borough councils. We booked our stay some weeks ago through Expedia - I selected a room we had used before and paid full price. I didn’t delve for the ‘important information’ which is further down the screen. Therefore, we were astonished on arrival to find we would have to pay an additional £40 per person per night just to swim in the hotel pool. This was ‘Champneys policy and part of the spa package’ - I never asked what this included though I suspect not much judging by the individual cost of each of the different spa treatments available. I have never been charged to swim in a hotel pool before, nor had the friends staying with us who are world travellers. The manager reduced the cost to £20 each after I complained. The room was comfortable but the breakfast disappointing - flabby slices of bread for the toaster - no fresh loaves - and our friend’s poached egg was cold. To add insult to injury, our room was advertised that day at £50 less than we paid in advance. Sadly, we won’t be returning which is a shame as it was previously our go-to local choice for special occasions.
