Very centrally located. The rooms are very comfortable. If you’ve flown up, contact the Sovereign and you’ll get free return airport transfers. The pool is very refreshing however if you’re an older person or have mobility problems you may find it hard to get in and out of as there are no hand rails or easy steps to get in. There’s a walk in area but the slope is steep with nothing to hold onto. It’s a very ungainly episode to try and get out of the pool! I suggest that this be looked into as I noticed there were quite a few older people staying there. There’s a bottle shop and a bar. A huge variety of drinks available and the food is pretty standard pub food. It’s got a really relaxed vibe about it. It’s right across the road from the RSL and Bowls club. Up the road is the Shipwreck Cafe which has coffee and meals (which are very good). If you don’t want to buy breakfast at the Sovereign, just walk up the road to the Cooktown Cafe. You’ll be rewarded with good coffee. Everything is within walking distance. The Sovereign is a really nice place to stay.

We had a good overnight stay, the pool was nice and pool towels provided. We ate at the adjoining restaurant, the meal was lovely! You have to pay and order at the counter which unfortunately wasn't explained when we were shown to our booked table. The rooms did have a strong wood polish smell. A gorgeous sunset view from our room, facing the main street. Mirrors in the bedrooms would be helpful, the only one was in the bathroom, but overall was a good place to stay.

This is a resort out where you wouldn't expect to find one. Beautiful pool and tropical setting. Bar and restaurant are in a building separate of the rooms. Everyone on staff was nice and helpful. They have 2 bedroom apartments. Some for families and others for groups without children. The family units are on the first floor and face the streets and are more utilitarian (easier to clean and less to break or mess up). The ones on the second floor are nicer. Cooktown is small but interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would have stayed much longer if we'd had the chance. As expected, this place does have some unique quirks but it's in the tropics and it's humid, so expect the heat and moisture to take a toll on things. If you let them know there's a problem with your room they'll do their best to adress it. This place is a lot like a small Worldmark or Wyndham property.

Beds were extremely comfortable. Fresh towels each day. Pool area and pool was just lovely but too cold to use for the time of year. Great location to walk everywhere. Room needed some maintenance- alot of the shutter slats were broken and there was no alternative (ie curtains) to pull over the windows. Broken tiles at the bottom of the shower wall allowing all the water to run into the internal wall (not that it bothered us but it should bother the resort!)

Great pool, okay apartment. The check in was a bit average, we didn’t really get a welcome vibe. The pool was lovely though. Very expensive for what the room was, guess because of the location, maybe the time of year. Had a great dinner at the RSL across the road.

Main concern was that window shutters did not close and several slats were missing. Although were able to change rooms it was at a higher level, closer to main street traffic noise and with a shared ibnstead of personal balcony. Pool, garden areas and dining facilities were excellent. Very central position in the town.
