What Guests Say About Their Stay

Dan

Ravenstone Manor is perfect for this kind of holiday. It's the best place we've stayed. The house is amazing, the staff are brilliant, and the food was some of the best we've ever eaten. The location is also perfect, with different kinds of walks clearly highlighted by the staff and the car park safe and away from the road. We also really appreciated how dog-friendly it is, and how thorough they've catered for people travelling with pets.

Ravenstone is a stunning small hotel, with warm friendly and helpful staff. The room, which was at the front, overlooked the lake and Whinlatter Forest. It was very comfortable, clean, and beautifully decorated, which is true for the whole hotel. A particular favourite place in the hotel during our stay was by the wood burner in the sitting room. After a day out walking to come back and read there was just so relaxing. We ate out one evening but the following night had dinner at Ravenstone, which was really tasty with a good range of choices. It’s our second stay at Ravenstone, which says a lot as we don’t tend to stay in the same place more than once. As we drove away we said to each other that we’ll definitely be visiting again. It’s so well located, very relaxing, well managed and staffed and provides the perfect setting for time away from everything.

I know this is a dog friendly hotel, and I have had several really enjoyable stays here. However this time I was almost bitten by a dog that was viscous and the owner had no control over it. A very frightening experience. It was so aggressive it knocked over a table, spilled drinks and smashed glasses and a lamp on the table. Staff didn’t seem concerned and animal was still allowed to be in the area. I was travelling with my elderly mum and if it had attacked her she wouldn’t have been able to get out of the way. Equally it could have been a child. I understand dog against dog sometimes in these environments, but dog against human is a very different thing. I think management should have asked the people with this dog to leave the communal area. They had a second dog which came at me behind the aggressive one and it was adopting pack mentality. Both looked like a hunting breed. One staff member did come over to me and check if I was alright, however it was such a serious incident that the manager should have been informed immediately which they weren’t. I think Ravenstone Manor is all about getting people in with dogs because I guess this type of customer is abundant for them, however they have lost sight of what really matters. Very sad. I will not stay here again.
