The Saxon Inn

Our room was beautiful. It had a king size bed and the en-suite bathroom was a good size. The only downside was that the toilet flush handle was broken but still worked. It could have done with better lighting in the bathroom as you couldn’t see in the mirror very well. The room was immaculately clean and had a sofa and tv with easy to connect to WiFi. Personally I struggled with comfort of the bed as I found it too soft but it was dressed with clean sheets and had extra pillows in the wardrobe. The food in the evening was very tasty, with very generous portions and the breakfast which you could order the night before was plentiful and generous portions of the full English which was served fresh. The only criticism of this was that the toast was not warm. Overall a lovely stay and would recommend it.

Great little hotel remote quiet location great food and even better staff really helpful and accommodating. I have stayed here a few times now and whenever in the area I will stay again.

Best hotel I stay in. Rooms are super comfy. Staff very friendly and warming. The food is also incredible.

My shower did not work, it was scorching hot I mentioned this to the lady working and they could not fix the issue. They know the issue is ongoing as they left a a4 sign piece of paper in room mentioning not to fiddle with shower as its tempermental.

Room was big and comfortable beds. Great facilities and plenty of towels etc. Food was very nice in the bar/restaurant and very welcoming from staff. Would recommend!

Pleasant overall stay. Room had all the usual facilities one would expect, all in working order. Restaurant serves the usual pub fayre for a reasonable price & to a fair standard. Bed was quiet hard, as were the pillows, but this is only a personal preference. Breakfast was of a good choice & variety, although a bit pricey at £10 per head. It should be noted that access to the bedrooms was by staircase only, so would be not vaiable for everybody. Overall a good overnight stay.

Lovely room. No stone had been left unturned re items provided in the rooms including cotton wool, ear sticks, eye and ear pads, robes even! Also breakfast was excellent. I need a feather pillow but maybe there were some of I'd asked!

A very warm and welcoming Hotel, one very minor thing, i cant stand very hot showers and could not cool mine down, as i say very minor so minor i did ask for it to be adjusted. Would definitely stay again.

Had a really lovely night's stay. The bed was really comfy, the room was clean and well equipped, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good pub food with massive portions and very reasonable. Breakfast was delicious. The hotel is peaceful and in a lovely setting right opposite a beautiful old church.

It was a lovely family night away the saxon inn is very clean the food is lovely you get a lot of food on the plate want you orderd ,staff are so friendly and helpful over all the saxon inn is nice cosy little place to stay. And also it is a nice little village as well.

Lovely little inn on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland. We knew that we were going to be arriving well past their check-in hours so I called ahead to explain (we were coming up on business). The process for getting in was clearly explained. When we arrived, cheerful gentleman (despite the hour) came to greet us, give us our room key and let us in. We stayed in Room 5, which was in great condition and tastefully decorated. The bed was comfortable with crisp linen and there were plush, soft towels in the bathroom. It had a large, waterfall shower which was powerful and had plenty of hot water. There was a tea/coffee tray (along with biscuits) and a kettle as well as a hairdryer in the room. What really impressed us was the work of a local artist on display in our room and throughout the hallways. There was a small plaque near the entrance which gave details of the artist, with her work prominently featured around the property. This gave it a warm, personal touch, as opposed to the endless museum prints that you normally see in properties of this size. Should our travels bring us back in this direction, we would not hesitate to return.
