Þingholt by Center Hotels

I’m not quite sure how this hotel received such great reviews aside from its location-which was perfect. The “hotel” was more of a hostel that required guests to carry their own luggage, fetch their own towels & linens & travel all the way down to the main lobby to search for an employee who could fill an ice bucket for us each time we needed it. We had a friend join us at the last minute and instead of the staff approaching us about xtra fees, they chose to instead deactivate our room keys & lock us out of our rooms after a long & tiring day of travel. If you think you are getting lucky by finding a parking spot in front of the hotel, you are mistaken-Street parking costs 4 USD/hr. The bar on the corner is open until the early morning & drunkards can be easily heard outside your window screaming & fighting until sunrise on the weekends. Cleaning services were nearly non-existent & the one day our cleaner did choose to come into our room, she didn’t empty the trash cans or change the bed linens. Our cans were overflowing & therefore, we had to leave pizza boxes & dishes outside of our door in hopes that an employee would eventually arrive to clear these items but sadly, this did not occur. The WiFi was decent & while we did not participate in the morning breakfasts or spa access offered (for a fee, of course), these extras appeared to be nice. Furniture inside the rooms were quite weathered & the walls near the shower were patched w/ wood panels. Not worth the $ overall.

Great location and service. Well decorated. Very walkable to nearby Lauvauger streets and Hallgrímskirkja. A lot of dining options nearby too.

We liked the location and price.

Unreal breakfast, outstanding service. Would definitely go back.

It was alright,but the parking thing we didn’t like it. Also,during evenings times it was too noise,people were shouting outside.

Centrally located. If you are planning on doing a lot of activities in Rykyavik, and want to crash somewhere cozy with n awesome hot tub, highly recommend this hotel. Rooms are a bit cramped, but adequate. Excellent breakfast. Very central.

Close to tourist bus stops and shopping- very convenient. Staff was helpful when we needed to schedule a taxi.

Great hotel in the centre of town. Staff were super helpful with parking. Rooms were spacious with very comfortable beds… we had a bath with a shower which was crazy powerful. Nice breakfast

Great central location

Lovely hotel right in the centre of town. Handy for early morning tours as is close to several bus stop pick up points. Hotel room (deluxe) was very small and a bit tired with lots of signs of wear and tear. Didn’t really like the stand in bath/shower as the bath is very high and a bit dangerous once you hit a certain age. I think the hotel should not put older guests in rooms with baths when there are walk in showers available. That said lovely hotel, great staff, centrally located, healthy breakfast which is included. I would stay again just in a different room.

Really great hotel! Quiet allowing you to peacefully sleep. Lots of great food places nearby. It’s near a shopping centre which is great if you want to do some basic shopping. Above all, there’s easy parking nearby. You do have to pay but for a weekend trip it’s great as it’s free from P3 (which is one of the parking zones)

The hotel couldn’t be in a better location and is convenient for all parts of Reykjavík. The staff were excellent. So many little touches including the check in receptionist noticing that it was recently my birthday to coffee being laid out for those needing to leave the hotel before breakfast started. One thing we weren’t fans of was the bathroom. The glass wall and door afforded very little privacy which we found rather offputting. Overall, a good hotel which I would recommend

Overall I would not recommend this hotel and I am honestly shocked that it gets such high reviews. This hotel has a fabulous location but that is about the only great thing about it. The staff at check in was nice and helped us to get a room early (I had reached out weeks prior and asked about this). She stated the room was ready but we couldn't go up for 10 minutes so we had to eat breakfast. We had been traveling and didn't care about breakfast but had no other choice. In less than 10 minutes our room was ready. We booked a deluxe room and there was nothing deluxe about it. Our view was the pipes and roof over another building. The bathroom was fully glass which was not clear from the photos. It is awkward to lay in bed and the wall next to you is someone on the toilet. The room was small and very cramped. The listing showed cable but not a single channel came in. The hallways are dark and you can hear every noise from the rooms around you. If this hotel wasn't so centrally located it would be a 2 star hotel at best with some modern decor. As I was checking out I asked for a receipt which could not be provided. A large group was checking in and advised that due to the weather warnings their rooms had been given away. 16 people were standing there with no where to go and it was quickly obvious that this is a regular occurrence. I worked front desk at a hotel prior and the way the staff handled this situation was far from professional.

We had an amazing stay at Þingholt by Center Hotels! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome—super friendly, helpful, and inviting. The room was a mix of modern and cozy, with thoughtful touches. The bed was comfortable, warm, and everything was spotless. Breakfast was a real highlight—honestly, better than some of the restaurants in the area. Great selection, fresh ingredients, and a relaxed setting to start the day. Overall, this hotel really delivers on comfort and hospitality. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Reykjavik!
