The Ryokan has an excellent location at the seaside with many good restaurants near by. Japanese breakfast was delicious and there was a beautiful inner garden . It is conveniently located right by the bike path connecting to the Shimanami Kaido and a short walk from the Ferry / Cycle boat to Onomichi. The hosts were very friendly and went above and beyond to help me with luggage shipping . The hotel facilitates luggage transportation between hotels and the Ryokan is affiliated with Sagawa luggage services, which is very convenient in case you want to bike luggage free. It is an old building but very clean and there is quite a bit of charm with an Old Japan feeling . Highly recommend !

Beautiful 100 year old ryokan with a nice garden and a simple but nice onsen. The staff kindly got larger yukatas for my wife and me and they were very classy looking. Beautiful setting right by the water. Convenient to restaurants and shops.

Charming, well appointed ryokan. The interior courtyard housed a serene Japanese garden. Shower and onsen bath are shared but there was a private toilet in our room. The hostess was extremely gracious and gave us a tour of the shower area. Rooms came with yukatas, slippers, bottled water, and individual lemon cakes for all guests. The only caveat is that the buckwheat pillows were small and flat. Overall, one of my family's favorite accommodations during our trip to Japan.

This place was amazing, traditional incredible place in a beautiful town. The ladies that welcomed us were kind and warm. When we arrived, the first lady showed us all the place around and she answered all our questions always willing to help even when she does not speak English and we do not speak Japanese. When we left, a second lady helped us finding a place to have breakfast. I would have been happy to spend another night in this place exploring the town. This is a great stop if you want to do the bicycle route between Onemachi and Imabari, which we did.

From greeting to end the staff was very welcoming and charming, what you'd hope to experience at a small town port side inn. The ambiance was like staying at your great aunt's home. Polite, sweet and engaging, great staff. The name placards in the entry proudly announce who is staying for all to see, as what you also find at your room front door. Country charm as compared to city proper. Inviting bedding after a long cycling ride on the Shimanami Kaido bike path. Tea and sweets in the room was nice to find ready to enjoy.

Our room was a traditional Japanese guesthouse room - very nice, comfortable will a fridge, sink and toilet. Not a modern fancy hotel but very very charming. As is usual with the a traditional ryokan there is a shared bath facility which was amazing. If we were more organized in advance we could have had the bath for our family but without notice we just bathed separately in the men/womens baths which was lovely too. The room had sliding doors that divided the room which was perfect for sitting up after our little on had gone to sleep. We arrived early and soaking wet after being caught in the rain cycling and we were able to check in early and get changed before exploring Setoda, and overall the staff were incredibly nice and coped with our limited language with great generosity.

I have been attracting by Setouchi Shimanami Kaito bike touring for a long time through Taiwanese cycling enthusiasts. At age 75, my wife thinks I am crazy. I booked two nights at Suminoe for 6/17 and 18. The spacious room with ocean view and bidet toilet are very impressive. Miss Wang who is in charge, is very intelligent. She suggested and drove me to the Ikuchijima bike shop to rent a nice one. I started around 9 AM in light rain and stayed cool. No trouble going across Tatara Bridge, but when I tried to get on the Omishima Bridge, on the right hand side, there was marking for toilet, so I go straight instead and came to the same spot for the second time. I was worrying I would not have enough time to return the bike at Imabari by 5 PM. At 12 noon, exactly what the weather forecast said, the rain stopped and I took off my rain coat, making good time to reach Imabari around 3:30 PM. The beautiful girl at Giant Bike shop took nice pictures for me and showed me where to return the bike by the JR station. I had a nice meal at the station, then walked across to the bus station to catch Setouchi Bus at 5 PM to Setouchita BS around 5:41 PM. Mrs. Wang's husband was so nice waiting there to pick me up. The next day on 6/19, I had a very delicious breakfast at Suminoe at 8:30 and walked to the bike shop where I rented the bike with a basket in front to haul my back pack. The manager, Wa Ka Mi Ya was so glad to see me and took some pictures for me. Asked her to greet Miss Tanaka.
