We booked a Premier Room at the Kempinski Munich expecting a genuine five-star experience but were left deeply disappointed.
Our room was a cramped attic/mezzanine room with low ceilings, poor air conditioning and a faulty bathroom extractor fan. We slept badly and my wife developed a migraine. The following morning, from 7 am onwards, we repeatedly tried to speak to the duty manager and arrange a room change. We were repeatedly given incorrect information about when the manager would call and when our new room would be ready, wasting almost three hours. When shown another Premier Room, it was clearly far superior to the one we had originally been allocated.
Lunch at the hotel restaurant was equally poor. We were greeted by being told we had to leave by 2 pm. Snacks promised with our wine never arrived, our starter and main course were served together without sharing plates, and throughout the meal no one returned to pour the wine. The assistant manager was excellent and apologised, but the waitress who mishandled the service dismissed our concerns by saying serving tables was "not her main job."
To make matters worse, after leaving our room at 11 am with the housekeeping light on, we returned at 2 pm to find it had still not been serviced.
The hotel has attractive facilities, but the service was consistently poor, communication was inaccurate, teamwork was lacking, and the hospitality fell well below the standards expected of a luxury Kempinski hotel.
