We arrived, two travelers in our mid-60s, with two heavy bags, to discover the lift out of operation. Our room was on the second floor. We had no idea about the layout of the building(s) - that it's a maze of narrow stairs and long corridors snaking from section to section. The desk attendant, rather than volunteering, "we'll have your bags brought up," said, "it's up to you, there's someone who can bring your bags if that's what you want." In no position to know any better, we started off on our own. Five minutes later we were still lugging our bags up stairs, sweating profusely.
Honestly, Salutation Hotel: just have your staff carry older travelers' heavy luggage when your lift is out. Especially if you're putting them in a remote part of the hotel on an upper floor, as you did us.
Our building was noticeably stuffier and warmer than the main building containing reception and the restaurants. And our room was warmer and stuffier still. Opening the windows did nothing to cool the room.
A staff member did bring a small fan upon request, which we appreciated.
The room was clean and the beds comfortable - though sleeping in the warm space was not easy.
