The location is perfect for many of the sites, especially the Duomo, the Academy, & the Medici museum and chapel. The hotel entrance opens onto a historic square, always full of people, so as a single woman traveling alone I felt safe coming and going. Despite that, it was quiet, apart from the chiming of church bells heard only if the window is open. The front desk easily can get you a taxi within minutes, if needed.
The room view of the Duomo and antique furnishing yet modern comforts was magnificent. The room was incredibly spacious. In my room they had two large glass bottles (one each of still and sparkling water) that they refilled daily, which made a huge difference in the July heat. They had very high end toiletries. My only surprise was the lack of hair conditioner, which seemed not in keeping with the level of everything else and that part was frustrating. The robes were thick, luxurious, and large enough to fit any size person.
Breakfast daily had delicious gourmet baked goods, cheeses, fruit, grilled vegetables, and many more things. I ate in the little outdoor space with beautiful flowers and plants. I would advise the management to train some of the non-Italian staff on Italian courtesy. There was one Serbian server very keen to tell guests when breakfast was closing which was a bit jarring compared to the usual slow, comforting Italian hospitality.
I’d give it 4.5 stars but rounded up to 5 stars.
