Wonderful location, comfortable stay

Excellent, fresh breakfast. Very good selection of drinks at the bar. Spectacular building and grounds.

cooked breakfast slightly overcooked but the breakfast menu was varied and good. Bedrooms are clean and feel part of the castle

Very friendly and helpful staff, a nice casual not stuffy place to stay with great breakfasts . A feature room is well worth the upgrade.

First time staying here, we were there for 2 nights. Reception staff were lovely, really friendly every time we spoke to them and even had a laugh on the phone. Proper nice vibe. Breakfast staff felt a bit abrupt though, like you were being rushed while eating which wasn’t great. The room itself was beautiful, at the top floor. That said, the stairs nearly finished me off and the blast of heat from the radiators… I almost joined the ghosts up there. Speaking of which, the place definitely has a bit of a spooky feel. The courtyard was stunning, really peaceful, and room service was great, super friendly again. Only weird thing was we had to prop the window open with a bottle. Overall, really nice stay with a few quirks… and yeah, a couple of spooky things did happen 👀 also I think the staff got sick of me asking about dessert of the day and being disappointed it was lemon tart!

My stay at Lumley Castle Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome — attentive, friendly, and always ready to go the extra mile without ever being intrusive. The room itself was beautifully presented, blending historic charm with modern comfort. The bed was incredibly comfortable — the kind that makes it very hard to get up in the morning — and ensured a perfect night’s sleep after a long day. One standout detail was the shower: powerful, hot, and exactly what you want to relax and recharge. It’s a small thing, but it made a big difference. Overall, Lumley Castle delivers a unique and memorable experience. The combination of character, comfort, and outstanding service makes it a place I would happily return to and highly recommend, to the point we have booked to stay longer next year.

We did not spend anytime in the main building as we were visiting family. The room we had the courtyard was cosy and comfortable. The castle setting is amazing in its own grounds next to golfcourse and quiet. We will be booking again to spend time here and have a room in the castle its self

The experience was unique, stopping in Lumley Castle. The staff were so friendly and helpful. This was a bed for the night while visiting Beamish, 11 minutes away. Beautiful setting and grounds. We didn’t have breakfast or evening meal but would definitely go again for the full experience. Thankyou for our time there.

All good except no full length mirror in my room (there was space for one) so one star deducted. Breakfast was excellent.

Easy check-in, we had a room in the courtyard- very easy to park outside the room. Room was lovely, very big, had a kettle with t-bags/ coffee etc. You can opt in for cleaning or opt out. Library bar a very nice place for a meal & drinks - and not overpriced. Breakfast was really good with a continental choice and also a hot choice to order. Loved our stay here.

Lovely stay at Lumley Castle every thing was great thank you

Unique experience staying in a castle. Stairs are a feature with a narrow spiral staircase to our room, fortunately we had small pieces of luggage. Restaurant food very good but at a price. Inconsiderate parking by some guests was annoying.

Such a special experience to stay here. It’s my favourite hotel in England.

Lovely place to stay. Appreciate listed building. But attention by house keeping could be better. Mould around bath handles and plug drain. Duvet stained (duvet cover was slightly open and you could see stains on actual duvet) Pillow protectors need changing. Just needs attention to detail. With house keeping.
