After booking this hotel I found out it was haunted! Maybe I should have done a bit of research before booking but I really feel this should be stated when booking! Looks like they are getting work down stairs in the restaurant but as soon as you walk through the door to go the rooms it stinks! It’s like a musky mouldy smell, the room was even worse! With black mould on the ceiling coming down the wall right next to bed that had stains on the sheets. We ended up leaving.

The pictures on the site do not represent the reality of this hotel. It’s currently very run down and in need of lots of work. We stayed for 3 nights, we only had 3 towels and although we asked for more twice, were not given any and they weren’t changed during our stay. The bathroom looked new but unfinished. There was nowhere to put shampoo etc. in the shower, the floor was slippy (I bought a rubber mat for them) the toilet flush was dodgy and neither the fan or light above the mirror worked. The breakfast was dodgy and the public areas really shabby. Shame really it could be really special. I can’t recommend it and we won’t return.

The hotel was being renovated. Our room was in the process of updating and was not ready to be let out. It had clean bed linen, but needed a thorough clean not just top dusting. It was understaffed with the few staff trying to do everything and failing. I could list all the faults which are the same as previous reviews. The main problem was that all the electric appliances were run from a multiplug, including the kettle, the TV and an old convector heater brought into the room as the radiators didn't work. Unfortunately this was a last minute booking and we were unable to go elsewhere, so had to stay. To be fair the staff were pleasant and helpful when we asked for anything and did sort out an overcharging issue discovered when we arrived home but they were totally overwhelmed with trying to renovate and run a hotel at the same time.

I thought this hotel was poor at best. My room was not very clean and nor were my towels. Do not recommend.

Our room is not too clean. A unclean teaspoon was left on the bathroom sink upon check in. No rubbish bin inside the toilet. No toiletries, so you must bring your own toiletries. No fresh toilet rolls were given to us. We were offered breakfast when we checked in so we bought breakfast for 2 adults & 2kids. We didn’t get a clear breakfast timing when we asked. So on check out day, we check out at around 10:30am and asked for breakfast. We were told no more breakfast is served, so then I asked for a refund as I bought it separately. I was told that no refund for that, they offered sandwich & cereals. We were given 2 slices of toast instead, 2 cereals. I paid £39.50 for that. It would have been better if we were refunded for that breakfast. But they insisted they’ll make sandwiches but no sandwiches were served. I don’y have high standards when it comes to hotels/hotels but this experience is just too disappointing.

The hotel seems to be going through a bit of a refurbishment and the only person there was a builder who was told there would be guests arriving. He gave me the room key, told me the front door lock wasn't working and just give it a shoulder budge to open the door and that was that....no staff or anything, just a phone number in the room incase of any problems. Came down in the morning to an empty place with no sign that anyone had been in overnight

****DO NOT STAY HERE**** This hotel is NOT ready to accept guests. Taking people's money to stay here is an absolute outrage! It is a building site. Rooms: -Cold. -No hot water. -Showers do not work. We were asked if we will need to have a shower when we were checking in because it was broken so they knew. -Door doesn't lock. -Tv didn't work. -No WiFi even though it's advertised as "high speed" -They have a bar but it's not really a bar. It's a fridge with a few drinks in. -The smell is awful throughout. -Dirty bed linen. We were booked in for two nights but only stayed for one due to how horrific it was. I explained to the manager then reasons why we were not staying and I didn't even get an apology. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Please do not stay here Pros: central location in Alnmouth, with good pubs nearby. Staff were friendly (albeit not helpful) Cons: The pictures on the listing are not what the hotel currently looks like, it has been (badly) refurbished. The hotel does not have the free parking as advertised, the parking is on a busy street and is only valid for 2 hours at a time. Staff are impossible to find, it seems a one-man band in the kitchen, bar and front of house. We were shown 3 separate rooms, all of which were unclean; with black hair on the surfaces and carpets hair, paint stains on carpets, dust, blood in the sink, dirty cups, water damage from the ceiling, spider webs, and general damage to fixtures. The electrics around the hotel are generally unsafe, with flickering lights, corroded sockets, fire break glass points hanging from wires from the ceiling, and cables badly repaired with electrical tape. There was initially no toilet paper in the room, and we were then delivered 2 half-used rolls. There was no hot water in one room, and the other having hot water coming out in explosive bursts from the sink. The bed was hard, lumpy, and covered in black hair (but did not have bed bugs, I checked). The heating in the hotel is not adequate; you cannot control the radiators and there is no heating in the hallways or bar area.

Very run down accommodation. Cleanliness poor, bed and pillows uncomfortable, bathroom had an unpleasant smell. Told front door was open until 10.pm arrived back at 6pm to find it looked. Rang hotel for someone to let us in and we were told we should have used the door code. Next day door locked again tried doorcode 4 times and wouldn't unlock. Rang hotel again and made to feel that we had bothered them. Never any staff about. Made to feel that as we were out of season and they couldn't be bothered. Not allowed to add photos of hotel and staff without their permission.

The stay was just for overnight on way to Edinburgh. The hotel itself ok but the town was cute walkable and right on the North Sea. Found a great pub and then a restaurant for an amazing dinner. The hotel did live up to the haunted tales as we did experience something paranormal but not scary.

Friendly staff. Good food. Clearly there are some issues regarding the management if the hotel as the decor was tired, some things like the bathroom extraction did not work and it was evident that underneath the beds had not been cleaned in a long time. But overall the stay was pleasant. Overpriced for what you get.
