We stopped by Lake Suwa for one night while travelling from Tokyo to Hakuba. Suhaku Ryokan has been tastefully renovated and is very well maintained, with a particularly inviting lobby where guests can relax. The onsen is located on the top floor, and the outdoor bath offers breathtaking views of Lake Suwa. The cheapest standard Japanese room has no view.
The dining area is spacious, and both dinner and breakfast were of excellent quality. Guests are welcomed with a complimentary drink, and a free lake cruise is included with the stay. A convenience store is conveniently located next door. We also rented bicycles at the swan cruise area and enjoyed a pleasant ride around the lake.
As it was only for a night we did not explore much of Lake Suwa and its surroundings.
