AVOID! COCKROACHES!!! stayed there over the weekend with my 5 children. I have never seen/dealt with anything this bad in my life. First of all the smell of the place is absolutely rank. Reception greeted me well at first. Then we arrived at the room. Room 9 to be precise on level 1. The bed frames had been wallpapered and all torn off. The windows are those old school single plain windows with the flimsy arm with a hole in. No safety on at all. My 3 yr old twins are autistic and love to climb so this was a big no no. The beds aren't even actual beds. They're made up of random bits of wood nailed together with a mattress that had been stapled together. The pillows were that hard they felt like they had wrapped a bunch of towels up n stuck them in a case. The water pressure!! Took me 2 hours to fill a bath half way and the temperature was tepid at max. The walls were ringing with tea and dirt splatted up them. The carpet was filthy. Then the COCKROACHES in the bathroom!!! Not just in 1 room but both rooms we stayed in! Room 9 and room 16!! Both on level 1!! When I complained with video footage they refused a refund! They were absolutely awful to me laughing at me wanting a refund and them shouting at me in front of my kids. Everytime I left/entered the building 5/6 fully grown ment would stop what they were doing and gesture things towards me and my children. Obviously the people who run it are not white and think this is appropriate! Never felt so intimidated in my life

Leaking radiator in bathroom, when reception were told, someone came to repair but it ended up being worse. Mattresses weren’t comfortable which made for a sleepless night. Could hear everything from the corridors

DO NOT stay at this hotel... It's run down, dirty, curtains hanging off, dirty carpets, dirty bedding... Decor of bedroom was different colours, looked like been a leak in room and ceiling repaired badly.... Was no heating in room and smelled of tobacco smoke, holes in walls. We got there and immediately wanted to leave however the hotel would not refund the room, we even complained to hotels.com who also did nothing about it. This hotel and experience was shocking to say the least!

An honest review - from the outside looks a lovely place to stay. Walking in greeted by a pleasant receptionist. Understood English well but very robotic in checking in. Not sure though this can be classed as a hotel, a mix between a Bail hostel, refugee refuge, or temporary accomodation for claimants. Banging from rooms above, walls are that thin in the bathroom that I didn't put my kids in the bath due to them being so thin, leads me to the bath, hot water is non existent, Luke warm at best. Smoking throughout the hotel, decor poor however sheets seemed clean.

The phrase, 'You get what you pay for' could be used to describe this hotel, but that wouldn't be fair on other budget options. It's a real shame that this hotel is in the state that it is as the building itself is beautiful. Unfortunately, years of neglect and no upkeep has left this hotel smelly, tired and dirty. The smell when you walk in is the thing that is first noticed. That smell is present throughout the hallways, stairwells and everywhere. It wasn't in my room, but that's because there was another unpleasant smell instead. With a smell that's off putting it really leaves you questioning whether things are clean and as you start to look and observe, it's quite clear that it's not. There were stains, everywhere. Walls, floors, sockets, the bath, even the bedding which had looked clean on initial inspection. I hate to leave such a bad review, but I paid for my nights stay and instead chose to leave 2 hours after check in and stayed in my car instead. I spent a grand total of 20 minutes in my room, with the window open to air the smell before going out to hope for some miracle that it would be better on my return. Obviously it wasn't and I left. This hotel needs a whole revamp to be made clean and inviting again.

Did not look like the photos, room had ripped wall paper - like it was scratched off, weird marks on the wall, shower randomly turned on and off, toilet didn't flush, door didn't lock properly, beds were so uncomfortable and lumpy, carpet was also extremely lumpy, the plugs next to bed didn't work, only saw staff once , heard every person all night

The lights kept cutting out the shower flooded, and the heater didnt work and tv didnt work. Is it possible for a refund as it wasnt up to standard and my son didnt sleep due to him been autistic he was affected as the tv or lights didnt work and shower didnt work

Terribly dated facilities. Heating did not work in our room. Bed dipped in the middle and we had to sleep at the foot of the bed

Cheap, quiet and clean with helpful staff. Building was once a beautiful gothic victorian spa and has a lots of original features. Sadly the the building and decor have seen better days, but what can be expected at such a lot cost?

A very old victorian building could do with a bit of tlc but was cheap and had a good sleep served its purpose
