Avoid this hotel if you expect a quiet night's sleep. I paid €142.50 for one night in what is advertised as a 4-star hotel. I knowingly booked a room without windows because that was clearly stated during the booking process. What was not disclosed was that the hotel would be hosting a loud party with booming music until after 00:30. I made the reservation the same day, and at no point before booking or during check-in was I informed about this. Had I known, I would have booked a different hotel without hesitation. After 11:00 PM, when it became obvious that sleeping would be impossible, I complained. A hotel employee kindly checked whether another room was available, but the hotel was fully booked. She offered breakfast or a late check-out, which I declined because neither addresses the actual problem. I paid for a room to sleep in that night, not for compensation the following morning. This review is not directed at the staff member who genuinely tried to help. The responsibility lies with the hotel's management for knowingly selling rooms on a night with a loud event without informing guests in advance. The biggest problem is that this is an invisible risk. There is no way for guests to know before arriving that they may end up in a hotel where loud music continues past midnight. For me, this completely defeats the purpose of booking a hotel. I would not stay here again, and I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who values a peaceful night's sleep.

The property is situated in a pleasant and peaceful area. My room was spacious, featuring two beds and various amenities. Regrettably, a local fair with carousels and entertainment took place for nearly a fortnight during my visit; while this caused some noise, the room’s soundproofing was effective. Due to high temperatures and the room's location on the upper floor, it became quite warm throughout the day; I had to keep the air conditioning running, though it lacked sufficient power for the room's dimensions. The breakfast offered was basic yet enjoyable.

Excellent boutique hotel, proper spacy room, comfortable bed. Good service, friendly staff. Delicious dinner. We really enjoyed our stay in the historic centre of Schagen

After spending 4 months in the hotel (for work), I can say that at first everything was normal, the staff was friendly, but then after about 2 months the following things started happening; the shower in my room was broken, which I reported - no one fixed it until the last day of my stay, shortly after that I noticed that every day when I returned to the hotel the toilet was dirty (probably everything from the pipe came back, which should normally go further, and it smelled, it was brown as if someone had had a big bowel movement in my toilet). I reported that and the broken shower several times, but no one ever did anything to fix it. In the last month of my stay there, there were problems with paying the bill, 4-5 employees were simply unable to make a bill and charge the same amount of the bill, which one girl at the reception desk before them did without any problems (a very kind girl who knows her job, blonde, slightly curly hair). And finally, on the last day of my stay, I get a call (probably from the hotel office), the lady tells me that they have to change my room because they have a reservation for that night for my room, and that they will move all my personal belongings to another room, which they did, because I can't get off work at that moment to do it, and there was no possibility to assign a new guest another room. Which was obviously their mistake because I have had a reservation for the exact date for 4 months now. I don't even want to mention how I found my belongings in that new room, horrible. What started as a beautiful and pleasant story of my stay at the Marktstad Hotel, ended disappointingly.

I stayed for a week on business in a room with a kitchenette. Plentiful parking is a 1 minute walk in a public school. Arriving with luggage you can temporarily park at the hotel entrance. The hotel location is excellent, right in the center of town. I really like the style and vibe. Front desk staff were friendly, but otherwise not engaging at all for the rest of my stay. What I liked: + Large room with nice decor + Safe + Nice TV that I could cast a link to to open You**be + Bed comfort + View of the church and square from my room + Heated towel racks + Tea kettle + Coffee maker + Good breakfast with healthy choices (however they never changed or rotated the food offerings during my visit + The room was very quiet except for one evening when there must have been an energetic child in the room above, as there was loud thumping noises for a few hours. To Improve: - No recycling bins - Tiny not-eco friendly product bottle in the bathroom instead of dispensers - Bad WiFi. Luckily I had an Ethernet cable and temporarily unplugged the telephone to use the Ethernet jack - A curtain that had a big gap at the top combined with a very bright street light just outside the window, so the room could not be made dark - No power outlets near the table by the window The biggest issue i had was with the HVAC system. I arrived on a Saturday and the system (which is centrally controlled), was locked out at 18 deg. Staff made several attempts over the weekend to raise the heat, but the control always reverted to cool mode. I was uncomfortably cold all weekend and staff never offered a solution like a different room or an offer to bring in a portable space heater. On Monday they had someone do some kind of software unlock which allowed me to raise the temperature. However there are some design issues with this HVAC system. - The thermostat and control are near the bathroom and HVAC exhaust, so even if you manage to get that area to 21C, the half of the room containing the bed and windows gets cold to 18C. - The system is centrally manged, so it seemed I needed to beg front staff to allow me to set the thermostat 1 or 2 degrees higher. - Even when I could set the thermostat to 22C, as soon as that level was reached, the set point would revert back to a default 20C, so I needed to constantly go to the thermostat and raise it again. - The system in general is very weak. There was a promotion if you decline housekeeping for several days, you get a free drink at the bar. I was about to go down to the bar and get my free drink when I read the fine print on the card which says you only get a soft drink. This didn't seem quite the reward I though it was.
