Just an all round relaxing comfortable stay. The only slight negative which is not the hotels fault is that it seems that some guests, once they have their room, have little regard for others that are staying i.e.coming in late (fair enough) being loud, banging about and slamming doors (not so)

Very comfortable room. Soap dispenser in shower didn’t work. Shower head didn’t stay up. Otherwise, appreciated biscuits and well stocked tea tray.

Staff were very friendly & helpful on arrival and the on site parking was convenient. Room was nice but very small which wasn’t comfortable in the heatwave. A better fan might have helped but we were cramped in the room. Breakfast was very good and nice bar for evening drinks. Location was great for a short walk to Beer beach

A shame that the quality and choice of evening meals let it down. Very overpriced food and not much variety if you don't like chips or cheesy food! Disappointed with the fish which was dry and the chips poor quality. However the cooked breakfast was excellent.

Lovely family room with adjoining bunk room for the kids. Amazingly clean & comfortable. One of the best “pub” stays we’ve had. Would 100% book again if re-visiting the area.

I'm a coach driver who has visited, literally, hundreds of hotels a year for 50 years. This was a private visit, paid out of my own pocket, to attend my Niece's graduation from Exeter University (she got a 1st!). It is hard to impress me with service, but the Dolphin exceeded all my expectations. The staff were nothing short of fantastic, the rooms were spotless, and the breakfast worth far more than I paid. Excellent parking, fantastic service, and I'll be bringing my family back for another stay.

We booked a cosy double but requested a refurbished room. When we arrived they took us up to room 19 it was completely bare no lamps, ornaments, curtains or anything on the walls no soft furnishings and very dowdy and old fashioned it looked like a very run down b and b room and no towels it was empty apart from a bed with sheets on and a kettle with tea coffee etc. It looked like they had emptied it and not being used. I went down stairs and asked if that was a refurbished room and was told no none of the cosy doubles were refurbished, I mentioned that I knew that they were the basic room but that there is basic and basic and this was more than basic and that I had requested a refurbished room through Expedia and that someone should have advised me that all of the cosy doubles were not refurbished and I would have altered my booking. The lady was very helpful and said that yes it didn’t say or advise on Expedia that this was the case and the photos don’t show the rooms in their current state and she agreed I should have been informed, but as she had a deluxe spare, she moved us to room 5 deluxe at no extra cost and apologised about us being misinformed the room is very nice and completely the opposite to the first room overlooking nearby cottages and not the carpark at the rear. If she hadn’t of moved us I would not have stayed but all in all it ended well. BEWARE cosy doubles are not nice and not like a nice hotel room. Breakfast good, fish at night not good not cod??

Hotel has been refurbished downstairs in the main areas to a high standard, the patio area also. However the bedrooms are in need of some updating. Shower room had nowhere to put any cleaning stuff! The shower didn't work properly. Bed was really comfy. Great breakfasts maybe a bit expensive. This is constructive criticism, the place is great and I'd stay there again.

We arrived on a Sunday which was a busy time, had to queue to check in.The room was clean and fresh but not as big as illustrated, apparently deluxe plus gets you an extra lamp ,not extra space, wish i hadn't paid extra! It was also so very hot although a fan was provided, maybe during heatwaves it would help if the curtains were drawn to help keep the heat out in the day. The staff were lovely but it took over an hour for our food to come out, (we were warned of a 45 minute wait) but it was a good extra thirty minutes on top of that.Breakfast was good and a lot more relaxed.

Great option if staying in Devon. A quiet town with lovely locals and beautiful sights. The rooms were exactly as pictured. The staff were really nice with any needs we had. Megan in particular was amazing help each day. In the future I think each room could do with some sort of small mini fridge.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was exceptional, from chatting with the bar staff to a chef coming out of the kitchen to explain how a dish I enjoyed was made. Food quality was fantastic, great portion sizes, well presented and tasty. Badger Beer made it even better.

Very convenient hotel in centre of town. Onsite parking, nice big rooms and nice bed. No aircon, but staff went out of their way to provide a fan on request! Good breakfast. Large outside seating area, but unfortunately next to the car park so not very atmospheric. Entertainment provided by lots of seagulls - guard your chips!

Upon arrival we were greeted and shown to our room, cannot fault her at all, very polite and kind. The room itself was lovely, nicely decorated, bigger than expected, nice bed(a little soft mattress for our liking but that’s personal preference). The room was generally clean other than a stain on the carpet and one on the bedside lamp. Bathroom was spotless. Was rather warm in the room but we were there during a heatwave and a fan was in the room already, maybe could have done with a thinner duvet. We ate there the first night, fish pie was really good so recommend that! Breakfast was pretty good too. Thought parking may be limited but we had no trouble parking at all. Staff were all really nice. Would certainly return.

We had a really lovely stay in room 19! The highlights for us were definitely the incredibly friendly, helpful staff and the delicious meals we enjoyed in the pub. Plus, the bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable, giving us a fantastic night’s sleep every single night. The room itself was very clean, though it is worth noting that the setup is exceptionally basic compared to what we've experienced elsewhere. It’s a very simple space with just one plug socket available (which requires unplugging the kettle or radio to use), and the electric shower has quite low water pressure. That being said, the great hospitality, cleanliness, and comfort of the bed made for a very pleasant stay overall!"
