Founded by Chang Yung Fa, EVA Air was established in March 1989. A few months after its establishment, EVA Air bought 23 aircraft, mostly Boeing and McDonnell Douglas fleets. These fleets were initially operated to five destinations: Bangkok, Seoul, Jakarta, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur before expanding its network to East Asia and Vienna by the end of 1991.
A year later, EVA Air rolled out one of the world’s very first premium economy services (Economy Deluxe), providing better service for passengers, before introducing higher travel classes such as Royal Laurel and Premium Laurel Class.
By 1994, this Taiwanese private airline had served worldwide flights to 22 destinations with over three million passengers. Fast forward to 2000, EVA Air had upgraded most of its fleets to long-haul aircrafts: Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus 330-200. Later, after Chang Kuo Wei inherited Chairman Position from his father, Chang Yung Fa, EVA Air grew more rapidly than ever. In 2010, EVA Air earned another achievement by successfully adding Toronto to its route network and providing non-stop flights from Taipei to Tokyo Haneda Airport. In 2011, the carrier served non-stop flights from Taipei to Guam and from New York to Taipei as well.
In 2013, EVA Air decided to join Star Alliance. EVA Air also expands its flight to Houston in 2015 and is planning to add route network to Chicago in 2016.
EVA Air’s flight attendant uniform mainly features green color that represents durability. Flight attendants wear dark green dresses adorned with white pinstripes and cropped jacket in olive color with green trim at the neck. The uniform for Chief Pursers features a dark green dress with yellow stripes, complete with cropped jacket in deep green and gold bands at the cuffs.
As a health conscious airline, EVA Air serves only healthy meals without compromising the taste. The meals are varied based on the travel classes. For Royal Laurel, Premium Laurel, and Business Class, EVA Air serves Hors D’oeuvre, Chef’s Special, Choice of Sweets and Bread, Freshly Brewed Coffee and Selection of Tea. There are also instant noodle, Din Tai Fung and Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream.
