Air New Zealand has teamed up with a New Zealand fashion designer Trelise Cooper to create uniforms for its flight attendants. Featuring a blouse with a mix of pink and black colors, the uniform for Air New Zealand’s flight attendants is described as contemporary and has a greater expression of femininity. Meanwhile, the male flight attendants wear stylish black trouser suits, with colored ties and scarves adding the splash of color. The pink color scheme appears to have been chosen to match the color scheme of the new aircraft.

The journey of Air New Zealand began on April 19th, 1940, when its forerunner airline, Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL) was incorporated. On October 1953, TEAL became jointly owned by the New Zealand and Australian governments. Eight years later, the New Zealand government assumed full ownership. In addition to TEAL operating international services, the New Zealand government also established NZ National Airways Corporation (NAC) in 1947. A few years later, precisely on April 1965, TEAL was renamed Air New Zealand Limited. The airline continued operating solely international service. Thirteen years after TEAL was renamed Air New Zealand, Air New Zealand and NAC merged on April 1978, forming the first new Zealand carrier to offer both domestic and international services. During the 1980s and 1990s, Air New Zealand continued to expand its international network, particularly to Asian cities like Taipei, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka. The airline also listed its shares on the New Zealand Stock Exchange as “A” shares (could only be held by New Zealand nationals) on October 1989 and “B” shares (no restriction on nationality of ownership) on December 1991. In 1999, Air New Zealand officially became a full member of the world’s largest global airline network, Star Alliance. This allows Air New Zealand to expand its route network and provide valuable network and loyalty benefits to customers, along with other airline members including Air Canada, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, SAS, South African Airways, Spanair, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Thai Airways, United Airlines, US Airways, and Varig. Air New Zealand has also experienced some changes. In July 2002, the airline began a fleet renewal program and confirmed an order for 14 new Airbus A320s, replacing Boeing 767-200 and Boeing 737-300 aircraft. Two years later, it was announced that Air New Zealand did an upgrade to the turboprop fleet, with an agreement to acquire 17 new Bombardier 50 seat Q300 turboprop aircraft, and options to purchase a further 10 Q300 and 13 Q400 aircraft. This new aircraft would replace the fleet of 17 Saab 340A aircraft. Besides the fleet renewal program, Air New Zealand also remodeled its business to offer competitively lower fares, simplified booking rules, a focus on internet sales and ease of booking, additional seat availability, and improved loyalty benefits for frequent flyers. Air New Zealand also became the first airline to introduce everyday, low-cost travel across the Tasman. There are other new international routes launched by this airline, too. On June 2004, for instance, direct services between Auckland and San Francisco were launched, with services from Wellington to Fiji and Christchurch to the Cook Islands beginning in late 2004, as well as direct services between Auckland and Shanghai in 2006. Today, Air New Zealand operates schedules passenger flight to 21 domestic and 32 international destinations in 19 countries, with its route network focuses on Australasia and the South Pacific.
