Bahau is translated as "Horse's Mouth" while the nearby town, Mahsan means "Horse's Body" in Cantonese. Bahau is a town in the state of Negeri Sembilan in Malaysia. In the 1940s, Bahau was known simply as a small town along the Gemas train line travelling north-east through the Malay Peninsula. Founded in a slightly elevated position and surrounded by jungle, it was this off-the-beaten-track location that was chosen as a resettlement area for a wartime civilian population from Singapore. Bahau, which was set up in 1943 by the Japanese army in Singapore, with the express approval of the local Catholic Church, was home to around 3,000 mainly Singaporean Catholics for nearly two years. Three hundred Eurasian families and 400 Chinese catholic families had left Syonan for Bahau. Becoming the principal town of Jempol District, Negeri Sembilan, the population of Bahau is made up of mainly Chinese, Malays (from the Felda areas in the outskirts of the town) and Indians, who live in town and the estates on the outskirts.

By Car

From Kuala Lumpur, the journey is around 2 hours via LEKAS or North-South highway while from Johor Bahru, it takes around 3 hours and 15 minutes by using North-South highway.

Ulu Bendul

The Ulu Bendul Recreational Park located 30 minutes away from Rasah town and 16 kilometres from Seremban. This forest is estimated to be around 130 million years old. It is situated on the Kuala Pilah Sri Menanti route at at the foot of Bukit Angsi and is one of the six recreational parks in Negeri Sembilan developed for ecotourism purposes. Many people come here for picnic with family and friends and if you are more adventurous, you can go jungle-trekking. Visitors also can stay at the specially designated camping grounds or rent one of the chalets in the park. Ulu Bendul offers activities such as camping, jungle trekking, fishing and swimming, ideal for the perfect tropical jungle excursion. Mountain climbers can explore the hill terrain by climb along Batang Terachi river. Gunung Angsi, or Mount Angsi also located near Ulu Bendul and has become one of the attractions at Ulu Bendul Recreational Forest which stands at 825 metres above sea level.

Gunung Angsi

Gunung Angsi is situated in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan with the height of around 824 metres or 2702 feet. Mount Angsi offer 2 routes for hikers to choose from which is either Ulu Bendol or the Bukit Putus routes. The Ulu Bendul routes takes about 4 hours to reach the summit. Besides that, this mountain also ranks 241st on Malaysia's highest mountains and it is the 3rd highest peak in Negeri Sembilan state, after Gunung Datuk and Bukit Bintongan which are both slightly higher. Gunung Angsi is only an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur being located in Ulu Bendul Recreational Park, about 20 kilometres from Seremban, the state capital of Negeri Sembilan. Visitors need to register at the park ranger's office before starting your ascent and pay a nominal fee (RM 5 per person).
