Balakong also known as Cheras South is a small township in Selangor, Malaysia. It is situated exactly at the boundary of Cheras and has been a part of Seri Kembangan district. According to the local Chinese residents, Balakong was drawn up by the British Government as Chinese New Village during the Communist Emergency Period. At that time, there was a river running through the village by the name Sungai Balak. It was then a guess that the name Balakong was derived from the name of the river and a combination of either a syllable ‘kong’ or ‘ong’. Syllable ‘kong’ in Hakka dialect means a ‘port’; hence Balakong means a port at the Balak River whereas a syllable ‘ong’ means lucky in Hakka dialect and Balakong therefore signifies that the Balak River brings fortune to its residents.

How to Get There

By Car

Balakong is easily accessible via SILK (Sistem Lingkaran Lebuhraya Kajang) Highway which exist at the North-South Expressway (PLUS) Southern Route.

By Train

Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Intercity provides stops at KTM Serdang station. From the station, guests may hail a taxi to reach Balakong.
