My parents stayed here. They cancelled booking for my room last minute. It was really bad but it happened to be so much better compared to the one I stayed. Trust me I stayed in better hotel for same price. Not recommended but there are no better hotels here anyways.

About

A small district in Negeri Sembilan that located at the borders between the aforementioned state and its neighbor, Melaka. It was established in the year 1836 when it was recognized as the new luak or state from Rembau. Its new head of state was known as Tunku Besar, a different title from its former state. Today, Tampin is under the state of Negeri Sembilan, officiated in 1st of July 1980, with the current head of district Tunku Besar Tampin YTM Syed Razman. Whilst it has been established that Tampin is under the state of Negeri Sembilan, people sometimes thought part of it is under the state of Melaka, thus dividing into Tampin Negeri Sembilan and Tampin Melaka. However, Tampin Melaka doesn’t exist. The part of Tampin that is thought to be in Melaka is actually Pulau Sebang that does belong to Melaka. Tampin district is almost 12 thousand hectares wide with population of 84, 889 people based on 2010 census. This census is excluding Pulau Sebang or 'Tampin Melaka’.

The name Tampin is said to be originated from a traditional basket made from weaved screw pine leaves to hold sweets such as dodol - a famous Melaka's sweet.

How to Get There

This small district is about 118km away from Kuala Lumpur, and it will take just under one-and-a-half-hour drive to reach it via North South Highway. From Negeri Sembilan, it will take almost fifty minutes with the distance almost 60 km.

Tampin also located near to the Melaka International Airport if one fancy to fly in, with the trip from the airport to the small town of Tampin is 40 minutes’ drive.

If you prefer much more adventurous trip to Tampin, there is a train station at the border between Tampin and Pulau Sebang, Gemas Train Station, a forty-minutes’ drive to town. You can hope on at KL Central on the KTM train for RM 31- RM 40 depending on types of train. The train ride will take about two and half hours, with stops at various stations along the way.

Tourist Attractions

Tampin Recreational Park

Despite it being a small district and town, Tampin mainly offers recreational parks that brings family together and closer. One of their parks is the Tampin Recreational Park, located in the middle of the town, with only ten minutes’ walk. The park is 9 acres wide with 0.8 acre is made up of a natural lake. The park is equipped with playground, jogging track and badminton and even tennis court in the luscious greenary park. It is a perfect place to spend with family and do a bit of a workout or maybe picnic with loved ones in the middle of a town.

Tampin Square

Tampin Square is built for exercising but family-friendly. It's geared with jogging tracks, several exercises equipment, and playgrounds for the children not to mention landmarks and opened-air stage. Locals usually come here almost every day to exercise or simply having a good time.

Mount Tampin

Mount Tampin, part of the Titiwangsa Mountain Range, just fifteen minutes’ drive from the town has one of unfamiliar hiking spots in Malaysia. It’s part of Tampin Permanent Forest Reserve. The tract to the peak is about 5km and even though it is relatively short, it has been considered as the intermediate hiking level due to steep inclines to the top. It also has two peaks, one is from Gunung Tampin and the other one is the Gunung Tampin Selatan. The distance between these two is about a kilometre and half. Due to its status as an exotic hiking tract, the undergrowth is thick and be careful not to get lost during the hike. Bring a parang is also a good idea. Tampin District Council had built several pools at the mountain foot, mainly for people to wash up and take a dip after enjoying the hiking up to the peak. The pools are well maintained, with crystal clear and clean water.

Hotel Centrepoint Tampin
