Ajil is a small town in the Hulu Terengganu District. It is located 35 kilometres south of Kuala Terengganu, near the intersection of Federal Route 14 (Terengganu's main interior highway) and Federal Route 106 (the main highway to Kuala Berang). Ajil is also home to a migrant detention centre where illegal immigrants are detained. There is a new town project called Ajil Bandar Baharu, currently under construction. This project is expected to revive a rather dismal urban economy especially in the old town at the intersection of the Jerangau-Jabor Highway which is currently under-utilized by road users since the completion of Phase 2 East Coast Expressway (LPT).

By Car

The journey from Kuala Lumpur City Centre to Ajil, Kuala Terengganu is approximately taking around 5 hours 36 minutes by driving a car, using Lebuhraya Segamat – Kuantan or Lebuhraya Tun Razak/Route 12 and E8.

By Plane

From KLIA Sepang or Subang Airport to Kuala Terengganu airport, it takes about 55 minutes to 1 hour to arrive by flight. Once you reach the airport, you can take a taxi or rent a car to Ajil by using Kuala Berang road for another 45 minutes.

Ajil Pheasant Bird Park

Ajil Pheasant Bird Park is one of the tourist destinations to be visited when visiting Ajil. Ajil Pheasant Park has been certifies by the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest breeding farm in Malaysia and it is hatching out hundreds of pheasant's chicks every year. This 1.7 acres of Bird Park houses a variety of bird species, mainly from the Kuang Bird species. The Kuang bird is a species of bird that has a pretty, brown and spotted freckle hair. There are over 30 species of Kuang Birds from various countries in the area and are bred here. A male Kuang Burung usually has a long and beautiful tail compared to Kuang Betina. Male birds will usually develop their tails to attract the attention of females to mating. The Kuang Bird habitat is usually in dipterocarp forest to an altitude of 900 metres and feeds on shoots, seeds, fallen fruits like figs. Breeding is usually from March to August and female birds usually lay their eggs in the branches and make nests. The female Kuang will usually lay eggs up to 2 seeds and then snatch their eggs to hatch. Now, Ajil Pheasant Park is having more than 30 species of protected pheasants from all over the world including the magnificent Peafowls.

Terengganu Inscription Stone

It is classical Malay inscription in Jawi script that was found in Terengganu, Malaysia. The inscription, dated possibly to 702 AH (corresponds to 1303 CE) revealed the earliest evidence of Jawi writing in the Malay world of Southeast Asia, and was one of the oldest testimony to the advent of Islam as a state religion in the region. It contains the proclamation issued by a ruler of Terengganu known as Seri Paduka Tuan urging his subjects to extend and uphold Islam and providing 10 basic Sharia laws for their guidance. The inscribed stone was first discovered by villagers at a steep sloping riverbank of Tersat River, Kampung Buluh, Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu in 1887, and was later brought to a nearby surau, known as Surau Tok Rashid. From there, the stone was further moved to Surau Kampung Buluh and brought to Kuala Terengganu.
