Bangsar is a prosperous residential area and a popular nightlife place on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. It is located in between Pantai Dalam dan Damansara, about four kilometres south-west of Kuala Lumpur city centre. The name Bangsar was based on the names of two board members of a British rubber company, Mr Edouard Bunge and Mr Alfred Grisar. These two men’s name were contracted thus creating the name, Bunge-Grisar rubber estate or Bungsar Estate and as time passed by, now it is known as Bangsar. One of its first government building is the Bangsar Hospital, previously known as the European Hospital, which was built in the early 1900s. In the early 1970s, an Eng Lian Enterprise Sdn Bhd had developed the Bangsar Baru neighbourhood, bringing more than a thousand residential places and a thriving business community. The following decade, Bangsar had become the sought-after nightlife place until this very day.

How to Get There

By car

Driving into the town of Bangsar from the heart of Kuala Lumpur city centre will take just about ten minutes or so, depending on the current traffics. The peak hours, around seven in the morning, lunch hours and around five in the evening, will take more time than usual as the traffics in the surrounding areas will be congested.

By LRT

From KL Central, get into the Putra Line of the LRT, or the Green line, and stop at the Bangsar station.

Malaysian’s official Little India is located just beside Bangsar, in Brickfields. This is the one of the oldest Indian settlements in the country. Here, do expect the scenery and ambience to change vastly. This Little India is made up of several streets, from Jalan Travers all the way to Jalan Tun Sambanthan. Most of these streets are filled with Indian stores and restaurants, selling everything from Indian traditional clothing, herbs and spices, and local delights such as thosai and vadai. There are also stores that sell beautiful and colourful flower garlands for religious ceremonies.
