Kuah is a town, mukim and district capital of Langkawi, Kedah. It is known as an entry point for visitors coming by ferry from either the mainland or Penang Island. The town is centered on its jetty, which bring tourists each year who come to enjoy the shopping and other attractions of Langkawi.
The town has about 13 000 inhabitants and it usually looks quiet with a relaxed atmosphere, just like the rest of the archipelago of Langkawi. Kuah is the main hub in the island for duty free shopping. A visit to the town of Kuah is recommended as it is the only place to do some real shopping on the island. Kuah is served by the Langkawi International Airport, about 16 km from Kuah Town. Eagle Square is one of Langkawi best known man made attractions. Here you will find a 12-meter tall statue of a reddish brown eagle about to take a flight and facing the water. In addition, there are 4 artificial lakes and a man made beach to complement the picturesque scenery. The park is open from morning till late at night and is within walking distance from the jetty.
The name of the park stands for Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which was held in the island in 1989 and the park was created to commemorate that event. The park is full of trees & beautiful flowery gardens and provides a nice site for taking a stroll and relaxing. The park has a man-made beach next to it and a children play area.
Al-Hana Mosque is one of Langkawi largest and most popular mosques. The mosque was built in 1959 and surrounded by tall trees of the adjoining CHOGM Park. The mosque allows visitors to come to view the unique architecture. The mosque incorporates motifs and carvings from Uzbekistan along with traditional Malay elements.
