About

Inaugurated in 1999, Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) is a world-class multipurpose development area located along Jalan Ampang, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Binjai, Jalan Kia Peng and Jalan Pinang. Here, one can find highly affluent shopping complexes such as the Suria KLCC and Avenue K as well as renowned hotels such as G Tower, Grand Hyatt, InterContinental and many more. Another commercial center with the “City within a City” concept in mind, it replaced the old Selangor Turf Club which hosted the tallest twin buildings in the world, shopping malls, office buildings, public park, mosque and several other hotels over a hundred acres site. Petronas Twin Towers, without doubt is the centerpiece of the development with all major companies in Malaysia making the office building area as their main headquarters.

How to Get There

By Car

People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive via the Jalan Damansara and Jalan Tun Sambanthan for immediate access to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. The journey could take up around ten minutes depending on the traffic situation.

By Train

The only train providing access to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre is the Gombak LRT line. From the centralized KL Sentral station, take an LRT coach heading to Gombak and make a stop at KLCC station before opting to go around the area by foot.

Tourist Attractions

Petronas Twin Towers

Petronas Twin Towers are one of the major skyscrapers of Kuala Lumpur, being the tallest twin towers in the world until this day. It is the centrepiece of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and is highly accessible via car, train or foot. Designed by Argentini architect Cesar Pelli, a distinctive postmodern style is chosen for the towers to be able to create a 21st century icon for the city. A multitude of testings and excavation works are done later on to allow the superstructure to have basement storeys. A main feature of the twin towers are the skybridge connecting both of them at the 41st and 42nd floors respectively, being the highest two-storey bridge of its kind. What makes it even more unique is that it is not attached to the main structure, is designed to slide in and out of the towers to prevent it from breaking as well as to provide support to the two buildings.

Suria KLCC

Another interesting place for go around when visitors are in Kuala Lumpur City Centre is definitely the Suria KLCC mall, being a fine shopping complex located closely to the Twin Towers. It is open in 1998, covering up till 1.5 million square feet of gross built-up area with 400 shop lots over six floors with several international brands. In addition to being the shopping haven, it has several good eatery places as well as entertainment options for family and friends such theatre complex and Petrosains.

Aquaria KLCC

It feels incomplete to talk about Kuala Lumpur City Centre without mentioning the Aquaria KLCC. This oceanarium is situated beneath the Kuala Lumpur City Centre covering an impressive 60,000 square feet area in two levels with a 90-metre underwater tunnel. Opened in 2005, it features over 250 different species and over 5,000 land and aquatic animals from Malaysia and around the world with interactive information kiosks on each fish species and conservation efforts for the endangered species including the turtles. Upon entering, visitors will notice that the large aquarium is arranged to exhibit the journey of water from the land to the sea.
