Kuala Rompin was a fishing village in 1926 that was often visited by traders who commute from Singapore and Kuantan. In 1952, the Pahang government established four sub-districts of Jerantut, Chenor, Triang and Rompin. On December 16, 1952, a British officer J.B. Melford was appointed as Assistant District Officer Rompin is a first for a small area to administer Rompin. Previously used as a small area, Rompin District is a district under the administration of the town. Rompin District administration is divided into five districts which are Tioman, Endau, Pontian, Keratong and Kuala Rompin. On July 31st, 1976, the Sultan of Pahang, His Majesty Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al Musta'in Billah, son of the late Sultan Abu Bakar Al declared Rompin area as a whole as well as the area's 9th district in the state of Pahang Darul Makmur. Besides that, Kuala Rompin has been famous for the sport of sailfish fishing. It is increasingly being recognized as the Sailfish Capital of Asia, and hosts a yearly world-class fishing event, the Royal Pahang International Billfish Challenge. It is about 133 kilometres south from Kuantan, Pahang.
From the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Rompin is located east and is about 3 hours and 50 minutes journey by using Bahau- Keratong road while travellers from Singapore must travel about 215 kilometres north by the coastal road via the city of Johor Bharu and the town of Mersing.
Endau Rompin State Park is located about 45 kilometres from Kuala Rompin and can be reached via taxi, express buses or rented car. Its name is derived from the two rivers through the park which is the Endau in the south in the state of Johor and the Rompin in the state of Pahang in the north. The Endau Rompin State Park is located in one of the oldest rainforests in the world. The park which borders the Endau Rompin National Park located on the Johor state border, covers about 488 square kilometres of lush forest and houses numerous wildlife and plants as well as various natural tourist draws such as waterfalls, streams, pools and fishing spots. There are over 600 species of flowers, more than 1,000 species of snakes, 140 species of snakes and 150 species of frogs and toads. Visitors can also participate in water-based activities such as white water rafting and tubing along rapid flowing rivers, or canoeing and boating along calmer streams. Besides that, there are also good fishing spots located at Kinchin River and Kemapan River. On top of that, this park also has the best waterfalls namely Buaya Sangkut, Upeh Guling and Batu Hampar all within 2 hours trek of each other. Please take note that the rubber tube rafting, night safari and night trekking, 4 x 4 off road adventure, the three beautiful waterfalls namely Takah Tinggi, Takah Pandan and Takah Berangin , adventure team building, water abseiling and jungle survival training are referring to activities available at Endau Rompin Selai or Endau Rompin West (the entry point is from the town of Bekok) in West Johore. There are many precautions for visitors to remember whilst in this park. Among them do not leave camp without informing others and do not stray away from other trekkers. Among the Important items that a trekker must possess are a large knife and waterproof matches or lighter.
