Mines Wellness City also known as Mines Resort City is a development project featuring a part of the government’s Economic Transformation Plan (ETP) which is spearheaded by Performance and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), under the Prime Minister’s Department. The 150 acre lake used to be the site of the Hong Fatt Mine, the largest open cast tin mine in the world. The Malaysian Government alienated the land for recreational and tourism purposes. It took a bold developer to take over the entire landscape of the deserted mining pit, as deep as 100 metres in some parts and with dangerously unstable slopes that has been considered unviable for any form of construction to be flooded and turned into a huge lake.
The restoring process of large masses of land and building around the lake was then named as the Mines Wellness City consisted of the development projects which includes shopping mall, a luxury hotel known as the Palace of the Golden Horses and also a theme park called the Mines Wonderland. Visiting Mines Wellness City is a good start for spending family time. An overview of the surrounding can be captured by taking the Mines Wellness City Tour that consists of a cruise that brings the participants to places such as the Palace of the Golden Horses, Mines Resort and Golf Club, Mines Waterfront Business Park, Palace Beach and Spa, Mines Wonderland Theme Park, The Mines Shopping Mall, Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) and the gardens.
