Tanjung Tokong is a suburb of George Town in Penang. It is located along the northeastern coast of Penang Island, next to Pulau Tikus and 4 km northwest of George Town proper. Over the recent decades, the former fishing village has been transformed into an upper class residential suburb of George Town, with high-rises such as Straits Quay lining the coast. Tanjong Tokong is believed to hold the earliest Chinese settlement on Penang Island. It predates the arrival of Francis Light by a few decades. Until the 1970s Tanjong Tokong was just a quiet fishing village. This is the destination of townsfolk escaping the noise and dirt of George Town. Tanjong Tokong was where you can enjoy good seafood or take a dip in the (then) pristine sea.
You can board flight to Penang International Airport. Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Malindo Air fly to Penang regularly. Once you reach airport you may take northern beaches bus from airport to Tanjung Tokong where the journey is 43 minutes’ drive away.
You can drive to Tanjung Tokong via the Penang Bridge and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Penang is connected to the mainland and the North-South Expressway by the Penang Bridge. The Penang Second Bridge or Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge connecting Batu Kawan and Batu Maung has been opened in 2014.
You may take ETS Train from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Railway Station and arrive at Penang's Butterworth Railway Station on the mainland. It takes 15 minute away by ferry to Georgetown on Penang Island. From there you may take taxi or bus to reach Tanjung Tokong.
