Teluk Chempedak, is a beach located approximately 5 kilometers east to the capital city of Kuantan in the state of Pahang. Along with the local business outlets lining the area, the beach has also somewhat been a mecca of fast food outlets, catering to Starbucks, KFC with the McDonald’s in particular being one of the country’s largest to date. Popular with the locals, it is not uncommon to see crowds here reaching hundreds on any given day, and usually they are not alone. The sight of monkeys has long been known to the area and while they are known to be harmless, these opportunistic beasts will grab an unattended meal whenever available. With gentle caressing breezes, white sandy beaches and clear waters, Teluk Chempedak promises to offer something for every visitor.
By road, Teluk Chempedak is accessible from Kuantan and nearby towns. From the city centre, head east to Jalan Teluk Sisik and upon reaching the end, you will arrive at Jalan Teluk Chempedak which will head directly to the beach.
Beserah is a coastal village located within the vicinity of Teluk Chempedak Beach. Its appeal lies in the retained sense of culture and living style, commonly associated with ‘kampung’ life. With reference to the hustle and bustle of Kuantan, the serenity of the fishing village is a stark contrast in comparison. From the common fishing activities, there would therefore naturally be a good range of fresh seafoods and restaurants to choose from, most if not all at an affordable price. A unique sight for visitors to this village would be the use of buffalos to pull boats from a day’s work up inland, a tradition that has lasted for the past 30 years. In addition, Beserah is also known for its shell handicrafts and batiks. For the former, factories present within the area often use seashells and local plants such as dried leaves, coconuts and nuts. On the other hand, there are also batik preparation demonstrations for eager tourists to try for themselves. With the white sandy beach as a backdrop, Beserah promises to be a breathtaking view for all interested visitors.
As with any visit to a body of water, a trip to the area would not be complete if one misses the opportunity to travel by boat to see what it has to offer. In this case, the Kuantan River Cruise is a strong option to consider. For just RM 26 per adult, visitors will make their way to visit the nearby eagle inhabited mangrove area, a tour that takes approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. The area has 2 boardwalk trails, leading up to the viewing tower. Keep a lookout for other wildlife such as crabs, lizards and prawns as you stroll around. Alternatively, at night, the cruise service also offers trips to see the fireflies resident to the area. For additional information, contact +60 18-908 2308.
