Left after 2 nights
We are long term traveller ( 15 months ) so have stayed in a lot of hostels. We didn't book just showed up & we didn't do any dives with them. The staff are very unhelpful & seem to be always having arguments with each other. Where the chill out area is, is also where the staff are and they are SOOOO moody & so loud have constant disagreements, it's not a nice atmosphere to be in. Every time we asked something or said something was wrong they just said I don't know or laugh. And then there is the smell The dorm room and the hallway the place stank like a dead rat or fish. When we told the staff they all just laughed at us yes laughed, when we told the manager about the smell she didn't seem to care, we asked if we could change rooms & were told ALL the other room were out of order. This was a lie has the next morning when I told her we were checking out and again told her why she said we told her to late that's why she didn't move us , it was 8 pm. We are a 6 people in the dorm and for of us left. This place seems to have some great reviews but I can't see how. Maybe if you are diving with them they treat you better but with that Bad attitude of the staff I don't see how. 2 girls in our dorm were diving with them, in the morning they were meant to leave at 7.45, the guy didn't turn up till 8.30 and didn't even say sorry for being late, walked in and said yeah let's go Thank god we found some where else to stay

Plenty of room for improvement, especially with regard to safety and customer service
The good: The accommodation is decent, clean, AC works, and when we visited it wasn't packed. There's a fridge you can use to store your food, as the provided breakfast is basically just toast and marmalade. The diving (except Sipadan) is relatively cheap and most of the dive sites are okay, so it's pretty good for practicing your skills or doing a refresher before going on more advanced dives. The not so good: The Internet connection is decent, but the wifi only works in the lobby. However there's usually a lot of commotion there and the staff keeps yelling at each other or playing music off their phone, so if you plan on getting any work done you better look somewhere else. If you don't have to work, this shouldn't affect you much. The bad: They don't primarily cater to western tourists so the dynamic is very different from what you might expect. There will be no hanging out and socializing with fellow divers or staff at the end of the day as most of them won't speak any English at all. Communication with the staff is basically non-existent. If you want to find out more about your dives you have to ask specific questions which they will somewhat reluctantly answer, but if you miss a question, well, I guess you'll have to figure it out on your own. Very important - this dive centre is not PADI certified! Therefore they don't seem to periodically test their tanks, which are old and leaking, and the other gear is pretty much hit or miss too. As far as instructors go Jeff was pretty good, but there has been almost no dive briefing at all, you go underwater and only then you'll find out where you go and what to expect. They also don't seem to care much about safety (when my regulator was uncontrollably leaking I was told "it's okay, it's okay", and it was only when I told them I would not dive with faulty equipment that they replaced it) or the marine environment (I've seen instructors touching marine wildlife and some Chinese divers breaking off corals and poking turtles and never has anyone told them they should stop doing that). This could be a good dive centre if only the staff cared a bit more about how good of a job they're doing.

Most Accomodating Staffs
I was at first hesitant booking my accomodations and trips with BGS, but then I decided to since I have 9 days of free before my dive starts with Scuba Junkie. I said why not? Norhaida, whom I've met thru fb only is very friendly and accomodating. She arrange everything for me, from airport pick-up/drop-off Tawau at a friendly price. The Backpackers Inn is clean and everyday is being cleaned. No foul smell is allowed to store in the fridge or within the room or lobby, that's for me a good thing. And thou, I stayed in a dormitory, we have our own toilets, cabinets for personal stuffs and beddings. The price per night is quite good with free breakfast. Norhaida also arrange a 2-day for me, 1. an Island hopping to the Tun Sakaran Marine Park, where we went to the following Islands: Bodgaya - where you'll meet the sea gypsies, isn't it great for an experience?!, Bohey Dulang - where we trekk up to 600m and see the beautiful overlooking of Tun Sakaran Marine Park. That was quite a struggle for me since I just had my knee acl reconstruction a few years ago but it feels walk in the park when the guides are very helpful, they attended to my needs and all other guests too. After, We had our lunch at Pulau Mantabuan. Then, enjoyed snorkeling around the prestine water. At Sibuan our last stop, Aimee, one of the guides and I went to pick up trashes all over the Island brought by other tourists. I think educating the guests of the proper waste disposal is a good thing. You are not only bringing joy to the guest but also helping the environment and bringing impact to the marine conservation effort. 2. It's SCUBA Diving Time- we went to Mataking and Pompom, 3 dives in a day for a lower price. Our guide Deniah is very efficient in her job. She managed to correct my buoyancy and made feel comfortable after the 1st dive. She encourages me alot that I can do well underwater because I was too concerned of kicking corals or my buddy. After the first dive, I felt refreshed and ready to take the 2nd and 3rd dive. We also had our surface interval on a Island where take lots of photos. I love the staffs, they were very passionate of what they do. They always do an extra mile to make their guests happy, content and relax. After returning to the town, we went for a dinner with them - and thats beyond their work time already. Too nice people and very friendly. Norhaida also did alot of extra mile for me, of my 9days stay, just 2days tour since I have already made my dive bookings with scuba junkie. Nor, on my first few days, walked me around the town. Show me the market, where I can buy stuffs or withdraw money if I needed to. She showed me around Dragon Inn where I can buy souvenier for a good price. Where to eat if I feel eating the Filipino food. Even after my 2day tour with them, she brought me to the Bukit Tengkorak and thats outside her work time. People are very accomodating. The staffs in BGS are very accomodating and fun to be with. I will definitely go back and have all my biokings with them from tours, airport pick-up and drop off and accomodations.

Geweldig vriendelijk en heel behulpzaam personeel. Heel mooi en veilig gedoken.
I am extremely grateful for the most friendly service I got during my stay at the Borneo Global Sipadan Backpackers. I came here to do my advanced padi course but in the end I ended up doing far more dives as there were so many beautiful dive spots. The dive gear was of good quality and I can happily say that I completed the course and all my dives with great pleasure. Ryan and Daniah were great dive instructors who were wonderful in showing me a lot of all the wonders of the dive spots which are not so easily found by the untrained eye. I also greatly appreciated that during one of the dives (without asking) they took along a camera and made some really cool pictures of me which I received after the dives without having to pay for it. Finally I am also grateful for the kind service which Haida gave me, Haida goes the extra mile to help out and that makes you feel really welcome at Borneo Global Sipadan Backpackers. Thanks for making my visit to Samporna unforgettable.

Great location, freindly and very helpful staff.
If your here for the diving, and I don't really know why else you would be, this is a fantastic place to stay and an extremely professional diving company linked to it as well. You cant go wrong for the price and Harda and the staff are very experienced with local knowledge. You will not find better value or friendlier staff !!
