Mersing is a town, mukim and the capital of Mersing District, Johor. Mersing is known as the main departure point for ferries to the state’s much offshore island paradise. It is the gateway to the tropical paradise of Tioman Island and as a gateway to one of the World’s oldest tropical rainforest The Endau Rompin National Park. The Malays of Mersing are unique compared to the rest of Johor that is many of them are Terengganu ancestry. They will speak Terengganu Malay along with the Johor dialect of Malay.
If you travel from Kuala Lumpur you can take the S&S International bus from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan direct to Mersing. If you are from Malacca town you can take bus at Melaka Central Bus Station direct to Mersing. From Singapore, the cheapest way to Mersing is travel by bus where you can take a bus from Queen Street Bus Terminal to Larkin terminal in Johor Bharu. From Larkin you can take local bus to reach Mersing.
If you travel from Johor Bharu or Singapore you may follow Johor Bharu (Federal route 3) to Ulu Tiram. Continue to Kota Tinggi towards Jemaluang until you reach Mersing. If you travel from Kuala Lumpur or Malacca, you can use North South Highway to reach Mersing.
Taxi transport to and out of Mersing is available from Johor Bharu and other Malaysian towns. The cost is around RM180 per car at peak hours and RM130 at non-peak hours.
