Parit Buntar is a town and the northern city of Perak located about 40 kilometres from Butterworth. The history of the name of the town of Parit Buntar comes from the name of a leader, Tok Buntar, a well-known community in the past where he and his followers built a trench from Sungai Kerian to flow into the fields. The trench was known as Parit Tok Buntar and later known as Parit Buntar. This town also acts as a junction of the access road to Serdang and Lubuk Buntar, Kedah from the highway. The alternative routes of Parit Buntar to Butterworth can be via the interchange of Jawi and Bandar Baharu to Kuala Lumpur.
The majority of the residents of Parit Buntar are Malays, followed by China and India. Besides that, Parit Buntar is also known for its famous foods such as Laksa, Mi Hokkien, Rojak, Nasi Kandar. The district is one of the main rice-growing areas in Perak. Its local government is Majlis Daerah Kerian or Kerian District Council which is based at Parit Buntar. The Big Clock in the old town of Parit Buntar is one of Parit Buntar's landmarks. This grand clock was officiated by Tunku Abdul Rahman on August 24, 1961, to commemorate the progress and prosperity of all the residents of Parit Buntar. The socio economic activities of the majority of locals at Parit Buntar are farmers who cultivate paddy fields, palm oil and rubber while the remainder as traders.
It takes around 3 hours and 25 minutes to reach Parit Buntar by using the North-South highway.

Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary is located around 20 minutes from Parit Buntar town. This place has been well known locally and internationally especially to bird watchers as there are more than 200,000 migratory birds representing some 50 species are estimated to stop over at Matang Mangrove Forest. Many local and international visitors such as the United States, Australia, Europe, Japan and other countries come to Kuala Gula to see these birds. There are several migration routes in the world and Malaysia is on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway route. The Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary has won the "Best Tourist Attraction (Natural Attraction)" category during the Malaysia Tourism Awards, a prestigious award presented to agencies and organisations which contribute to the development of tourism in Malaysia. A species classified as endangered by IUCN such as Upagent Boots (Mycteria cinerea), Small Baldwin (Leptoptilos javanicus), Chinese Eagles (Egretta eulophotes) and Green Legs (Tringa nebularia) can also be found here except Birds of the Sea White and Graveyard.
Ban Pecah is located near Tanjung Piandang, Perak which is only five kilometres from Parit Buntar town. This place was a lush rice paddy field and is known among Kerian people for relaxation and dining.
