Right in town so location is great! Many good food around. Room no frills but OK for the price you pay and reception staff all nice … very good experience. Will stay there again if I go there in the future ❤.

this is my second time stay here after one and a half year. remain clean room. relaxing showwr. only one, need to climb up to 3rd floor a bit tiring. the rest all good

Excellent location right beside ferry terminal, entrance to Kukup village and 3 seafood restaurant. Rooms are clean and sustainable, strong wifi and have itinerary ideas for you to make your day fun filled.

Pontian is a district in southwest Johor. The name Pontian is also used in the names of two towns in the district, Pontian Besar and Pontian Kechil, of which the latter serves as its district capital. The name of Pontian was transformed from a Malay word Perhentian which means a stop. Other notable towns in Pontian include Ayer Baloi and Benut, north of Pontian Kechil. To the south and east of Pontian Kechil respectively are the towns of Teluk Kerang and Pekan Nanas. Pontian’s coastal areas are populated by Malays of Bugis and Javanese descent, while the Chinese community in Pontian predominantly belongs to the Fujian (Hokkien) sub-ethnicity. The Bugis Museum was built here to preserve the Malay Bugis history.

How to Get There

By Plane

The nearest airport to Pontian is Senai International Airport located in Senai approximately 1 hour drives from Pontian. Travellers may take Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia, Malindo Air and Firefly flight to reach Senai International Airport. From airport you may take bus, taxi, uber or grab car to reach Pontian.

By Car

You may drive to Pontian where it takes approximately four hour drive from Kuala Lumpur via the North-South Expressway. If you travel from Singapore, you may use Singapore Causeway or Second Link Expressway that connect Singapore to Johor as well as the rest of the peninsular. If you travel from Johor Bharu you may proceed to the north via trunk road or you may use the North South Expressway to reach Pontian.

By Train

You may take ETS train from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station (KL Sentral) to reach Johor Bahru. The ETS will stop at Gemas and from there you may take KTM to JB Sentral. You can buy joined ticket that it takes 10 minutes to wait at Gemas for between trains. If you travel from Singapore, you may take KTM at Woodlands Station to JB Sentral. From JB Sentral you may hail taxi to reach Pontian where the journey takes 1 hour 5 minutes from JB Sentral.

By Ferry

There are ferries that go to Pontian from Singapore and Indonesia, as Pontian is a popular weekend getaway for visitors, especially Singaporean. You can board ferry from Singapore Terminal or Indonesia terminal to reach Kukup Ferry Terminal. From Kukup Ferry terminal you may hail taxi or bus to reach Pontian town.

Tourist Attractions

Tanjung Piai

Tanjung Piai National Park is a well-known tourist destination in the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia. It is mostly made up of mangrove and mudflats. There are information boards along the walkway, where visitors can gather the details of the habitat in the park. When the visitors reach a globe shaped monument, they know they have arrived at the southernmost point in Peninsular Malaysia.

Kukup Island National Park

Kukup Island National Park is a wetland which homes to wide array of unhabituated mangrove trees. There are submerged plants, underwater flowers, floating water plants and swamps that you hardly seen before. This unique habitat comes along with various species of wildlife such as wild boars and mudskippers.

Pineapple Museum

You may come and visit Pineapple Museum to know everything about the tropical fruit, pineapple that include the cultivation of the pineapple, from scratches until the end. Apart from that, the museum exhibits the way pineapple is processed, and finally canned. If you are interested in getting some souvenirs there, they do sell products of pineapple, such as pineapple jam, pineapple fresh juice and more.

Bugis Museum

The Bugis Museum is an interesting place to visit during your stay in Pontian. The museum was built by the descendants of the Bugis and residents who live around the museum, who wanted to keep alive the history and tradition of their ancestors. There are more than 2,000 artifacts displayed in the museum, ranging from weapons, clothes, old coins, jewelry, pictures and more.
