Wakaf Bharu is a small town located in Tumpat district, Kelantan, Malaysia.Mukim of Wakaf Bharu is one of the districts located in Kelantan and is also one of the districts located in the administration of Tumpat Colony. There is a well-known market called "Pasar Besar Wakaf Bharu" or Wakaf Bharu Big Market which is the largest and busiest in Tumpat. Besides being known as the cleanest market in the state of Kelantan, the market is also famous for selling a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, fishes and poultry. This market is open from morning until evening. Beside the mosque and several praying rooms, there is also a church in Wakaf Bharu. More than 90 percent in this area are Malays and Muslims. Two primary schools called "Sekolah Kebangsaan Wakaf Bharu" and "Sekolah Sri Wakaf Bharu" and a secondary school called "Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Wakaf Bharu" are located here. Wakaf Bharu also becomes overcrowded on Friday as there is a famous market called "Friday Market" near the "Big Market of Wakaf Bharu".

How to Get There

By Car

The journey takes approximately 6 hours and 40 minutes by using the Federal road. There are also alternative roads to Wakaf Bharu which are using Kuala Lumpur-Gua Musang route and the North-South highway.

By Plane

There are flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport or Subang Airport to Kota Bharu Airport such as Air Asia, Malindo and Malaysia Airlines. The flight takes around 50 minutes to an hour and once you reach the airport, you can rent a car or take a taxi to Wakaf Bharu which takes another 25 minutes.

Sri Tujuh Beach

Sri Tujuh beach is a beach from a formation of seven bays situated at Tumpat. Its natural beauty gives visitors a peaceful view and if there is an opportunity, you can watch fishermen’ activities spread nets from the seashore.The source of income of this fisherman is not limited to catching fish but also carries fish breeding in cages and processing salted fish. Besides that, this beach has been hosting international competitions.Its main attraction, however, lies in the phenomenon of seven bays and a floating resort built on Sri Tujuh Beach. It is known as Resort Sri Tujuh equipped with a swimming pool, futsal court and golf course.

The Handicraft Village and Craft Museum

Also known as "Balai Getam Guri", the Handicraft Village and Craft Museum are located in the heart of Kota Bharu's cultural zone, within walking distance from the Istana Balai Besar and Buluh Kubu Bazaar.This museum is a place where visitors can discover and learn about the history of the progress of various arts and handicraft of Kelantan. There are exhibits pertaining to local handicraft industry and displays of Kelantan-styled fine craft can be seen, among them batik, which is the state’s best-known product. The Wau, or kite in Malay, is also one of Kelantan’s heritage on display at the museum. Wau comes in many shapes and sizes filled with complex and intricate designs on them. The designs and history of Wau-making will be shown and also demonstrations of crafting at the museum, among them batik printing, songket weaving and wood carving. Visitors can also purchase various arts and craft products that are on display as souvenirs.
