Hostel not Hotel
Booked through booking.com not like the pictures wrong address given . Mould on window and walls, The owner showed us 2 other rooms both with similar problems. The bathroom window had some sort of covering. Killed a few mosquitoes in the room. Didn't bother staying just walked out. Didn't try the bathroom. In my opinion this hostel is not for families it feels like 1 star accommodation. Location is a little bit intimidating. Pay £20 extra and get a really nice hotel with breakfast for a family room overlooking the river walking rate of £40 for quad family room. This hostel would have spoiled our holiday if we stayed here.

Inaccurate info, but not bad
A. Inaccurate information:- 1. The hotel sent me an email to confirm my reservation, stating its phone number and address at JALAN GREEN. 2. When we arrived at the address via Waze (and thereafter searched Google Maps), it was a residential area, and Hotel 48 was nowhere in sight. 3. Called the number - no one answered. 4. Only found the right address and phone number after searching on Agoda.com. 5. The pictures are outdated. We had a peek into the bigger room with two queen-sized beds, and it was as nice as the pictures, but our room was not (room 1 had one queen-sized bed, and room 2 had one queen-sized bed and one single bed). B. Service There were two receptionists when we arrived. One was on the phone and didn't bother acknowledging us. The other was doing who knows what and didn't acknowledge us either. We waited for awhile before we were attended to. We let it go because it IS a budget hotel after all. C. Amenities 1. Cleanliness: The floor was quite clean. There were some stains on the bed, but nothing too gross and no bed bugs. Walls had stains and place looked worn out, but I guess you get what you pay for. 2. The bed is extremely comfortable. EXTREMELY comfortable. Really good for a good night's rest after a long day of walking around. 3. Water pressure was fantastic, although the shower head leaked and was difficult to turn on and off. We had to maneuver around a valve that was very difficult to turn. 4. Toilet bowl wasn't totally functional. Sometimes after flushing, the water would continue to run into the bowl instead of filling up the tank, resulting in a lot of noise and difficulty in flushing. Problem solved by turning off the water for the toilet bowl, but was inconvenient. 5. No toilet paper. We had to get our own from 711. They didn't sell toilet rolls, so we got a big pack of facial tissue. 6. They provide soap bars. Really small soap bars. 7. Towels provided. 8. Aircon was working well. 9. Internet available. Speed was excellent. 10. Lousy blur TV with hardly any interesting channels. D. Location Strategic location. We walked most of the time. Plenty of 711's nearby. There is a kueh chap shop that sells the best kueh chap. There is also a Malay shop opposite the hotel. Anyways, Grab is really reliable and available in Kuching, so don't worry about getting around. There's a bistro nearby, so it can get noisy at night. It can also be dodgy at night if you're walking alone. Otherwise, it's alright. E. Conclusion It was alright, considering what we paid. Good for a few nights' stay just to sleep in after doing some sight-seeing, but definitely not for a family vacation place.

Loved this place
Loved this place. We booked for a few nights intending to look around for somewhere we'd stay for another 10 days and make sure we got everything we wanted at a good price. We just rebooked here as at R58 (Agoda) its great value. Our room was a good size with 2 windows, everything was clean and in good working order. Good A.C. shower warm and powerful, bathroom clean and not tiny, good sink with a shelf and mirror above and toiket flush worked well. The room had a desk with a stool, a big mirror with a power socket next to it, a power socket by the bed goi6d for charging phone or using laptop and a 3rd power socket near TV. The room also had a place to hang clothes and a chair. There was free hot and cold water for drinks. Wifi was good. Location was convient, close to river, good cheap food and beer in Green Hill Corner food court round the corner and not far to walk to museums, Malls, reservoir park for morning walks. Also close to other areas with great food. Staff very nice, friendly and helpful.

Clean & friendly
Good cheap hotel 5 minute walk from the waterfront in Kuching. The staff were friendly & helpful. It's a family environment with the family often having their meal in the reception area. The room was small but clean & comfortable. The bed was comfortable also. The bathroom is the usual for this type of hotel, with the shower & toilet together so when you shower everything in the bathroom gets wet. Annoying but expected. The hotel is in a nightclub area so on our first night, Saturday, there was a lot of noise. The music from the clubs was not too loud but there were gatherings of young men chatting loudly under the hotel windows until fairly late. Other nights were fine, no noise. I slept well. There is also a group of men who drink around the entrance of the hotel who were a little intimidating at first glance but were harmless & quite friendly after a couple of days. There is free water from a dispenser in the common area. There is free Wi-Fi to the rooms. It's slow but it works if you're patient. There is a small fridge downstairs from which you can choose beer or other drinks for reasonable prices. There's no airport transfers but staff organised a taxi for us when we were leaving. They also organised a guide to take us out to the caves at Bau. He quoted high prices but we were able to bargain down substantially. We enjoyed the few days we spent at Hotel 48 & would stay again.

Friendly owner
Generally, I think the people in Kuching are very friendly and helpful. I suppose this hostel is quite new as many local people do not know about the place. The owner is very friendly and helpful, room is spacious and clean, free water to refill and walking distance to Waterfront. For the rate of the room, it is definitely worth it and couldn't ask for more!
