Nice and convenient hotel. Very nice and cozy room. Highly recommended for people who are looking at cheaper hotel with a little bit of Nonya taste. If you have more money to spend, can give Seven Terrace a try.

Nice concept hotel but poor up-keeping on basic functions
We were a party of 5 which booked the Penaga Suite with 2 bedrooms a few months before our arrival date of October 19. On arrival, we were pleasantly informed that there was an air con issue with our booked suite and the hotel had taken the liberty to upgrade us to their Clarke Terrace instead. We were excited at first but this was when our nightmare started. On the first night, one of the bedroom air-con wasn't working well and we had to depend on the ceiling fan to keep us cool through the night. On the second night, the air-con of the other room was affected, When we called for assistance to look into our air-con, we were told that our unit air-con compressor was not working and they had to move us to the terrace next door. We requested to ensure the unit next to us had the air con working first before we moved. After 30 minutes of waiting, the new unit air-con in one of the bedrooms was not blowing cold air still. We then viewed yet another unit and 3 more rooms! This went on till mid-night where we decided to "downgrade" to 2 Hutton rooms instead as we were too tired to keep viewing rooms anymore and all we wanted was a good night's rest. The general up-keeping of the property is very weak. While we were at the Clarke Terrace, and we wanted to use the teapot, there was 2 mouldy tea-bags which looked like they were there for weeks, which indicates that housekeeping does not refresh the place throughly before they make the unit available for the guests. When we moved to the Huttons Room, the hair dyer did not work and to make things more annoying, both the phones next to the bed and the bathroom did not work as well. I had to personally walk down to the Front Desk to get a new hair dryer! On our last day, while reviewing our bill, we requested for a later check-out at 1:30pm and was told that it is not possible and the best late check-out they could accord was 1pm. We were told that if we extend after 1pm, there will be a charge. When we came back to our room at 12:30pm, our key card didn't work already and we needed front desk to "escort" us back to our room so that we could get our luggage for check-out. The Front Desk team seriously lacks service passion in their duties. Throughout our whole ordeal of room moves and hiccups, there was no sense of empathy nor care to us of what we have been through. Even after everything we had encountered, we were still charged for the price of the Penaga Suite which we didn't even had the opportunity to experience. The best that the hotel could do was to waive off our extra bed charge. Even our request to speak with a higher authority, was brushed off by the front desk informing us just so timely, the manager is on leave. The only thing the hotel got right was their outsourced services: The airport transfer driver (RM$55 per trip - you would save more with Grab or Uber as we later found out) we booked through the hotel was very helpful and assisted us with all our luggages. We tried their outsourced spa as well and their spa therapist manager, Mia was also truly a gem!

Lovely boutique hotel
Just far enough out of town to be quiet, but close enough where you can walk wherever you want to go. The rooms are cute and extremely well maintained, the property grounds are quiet, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. In addition, breakfast is good. There is a pool, but we did not use it while there--it's kind of oddly situated nearby the cafe window so you feel a bit like a spectator in my opinion.

Great location, bad sleep
Great location, no doubt - it is a stone's throw away from Lebuh Campbell which is the landmark for all the food places in Georgetown. But a very poorly kept hotel that is in dire need of a renovation. We requested for a quiet room and got the corner room on the 2nd floor. But were kept up all night by a constant tapping on our ceiling which we figured was caused by the roofing during the rainy night. Moved to 3rd floor but hallway lights were out so pitch dark. Eventually moved back down to another unit on 2nd floor. Elevator not working - notice was put up 3 weeks ago...flooring so old that it creaked really loudly every time anyone was walking - hallway and above us. I get that it's a heritage hotel but really? The rooms smelt musty, aircon was noisy...basically no rest for the weary. The saving grace was the staff who really did the best under the circumstances so I really appreciated it. But to the owners of the hotel - time for a renovation!

Really good Hotel lives up to its rep.
Stayed here for 6 nights.....lovely room with great air con. Big bathroom and massive bed.....very comfortable too. Right in the middle of Georgetown and in a good shopping area. Really good staff and pretty much has everything you need for your stay here in this interesting little town. The only issue I had was the elevator was out of action for the duration of my stay. I was on the top floor so plenty of exercise.

The Hotel does have character, however, is not well maintained and whilst the rooms are large and have a nice layout they smell musty and not very clean. Can get very noisy with outside traffic. It is not a cheap hotel for Penang, we paid about $185 AUD per room per night without breakfast. The staff are efficient but do not offer assistance willingly eg with bags and help with directions.
