Gunung Gading National Park is a national park being well known as the home to the rafflesia flower which is the largest flower in the world. Located fifteen minutes away from the landmark, the national park is managed by Sarawak Forest Department with Sarawak Tourism frequently promoting this park. What makes the rafflesia unique is that it will release a certain smell when it is in full bloom, yet it dies within five days of flowering after a long nine months of maturing. It is able to grow up till one meter in diameter and does not have any specific season. Strenuous efforts have been poured into preserving these flowers, hence the reason for the park to finally open its doors to visitors in 1994 after a decade of operating as a conservation center. As such, the park planners have been taking strict measures to allow the public to enjoy viewing the plants without damaging the ecosystem which would impact these flowers later on. In addition to the rafflesia flower, there are also a rugged mountain range and jungle trails which allow the visitors to enjoy being close to the nature.
