Ranau Poring Hot Spring is located in district of Ranau and is one of the best places to distress and perfect getaway to release all the soreness and aches of body and mind. The word Poring came from Kadazandusun term for bamboo species. Poring Hot Springs is also one of the therapeutic and ‘must visit’ attractions that is recommended by locals because the water of the hot springs contains sulphuric minerals which have special healing properties and is very famous among the locals and this place also features bird-watching spots, a butterfly farm, a sulphur bath and an outdoor pool. Besides Hot Spring, you also can find rafflesia flower, waterfalls, cave, canopy walk, rainforest, orangutan, orchid farm and butterfly garden nearby this place. For a satisfying and caution trip to Poring Hot Springs, visitors are recommended to bring some important things such as rubber sandals or slippers, change of clothes, towel, and swimwear. This exceptional place is also famous among hikers of Mount Kinabalu.
Poring Hot Springs is situated approximately 136 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu (3 hours drive away). One can choose to either go by bus, take a taxi, or rent a car to get to Poring Hot Springs. Take a flight from KLIA to Kota Kinabalu which will take around 2 hours and 30 minutes to arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport. To get to this place from Kota Kinabalu, just drive in the direction to Kota Belud town and this drive will take around 2 hours and 50 minutes by using Jalan Ranau and arrive to Ranau Poring Hot Spring.
Other than the natural hot spring main attraction at Poring Hot Springs, there are also other interesting areas in the park to be visited such as the butterfly farm, the Poring Orchid Conservation Centre and the Poring canopy walkway.
The butterfly farm is the first butterfly farm in Borneo. It features a vast garden, nursery and hatchery for the purpose of education, research and preservation. It houses many types of species of butterflies range from different colours and sizes.
The Poring Orchid Conservation Center is the centre of the largest collection of Sabah orchids and also international species. There is about 1200 species of orchids and this place conserve and preserve orchids with precaution because orchid is very sensitive to different conditions.
The Poring canopy walkway is also a must visit for those who come to Poring Hot Springs. You can take a stroll in the lush greenery of the Menggaris tree and the walkway is around 157.8 meters long and is 41 meters high. Besides that, you also have the chance to see the largest flower in the world, the Rafflesia.
