Redang Island is a small secluded island off the coast of peninsular Malaysia. Redang airport (RDN) is located at Redang Island, Terengganu. The airport is owned by the government of Malaysia and is operated by Malaysia Airport Sdn. Bhd. The airport was completed in 2003 by the Berjaya Group . It serves direct flights to the island from Kuala Lumpur's Subang Airport and Singapore's Changi Airport Budget Terminal. None of the beaches on the island are connected by a proper road and there are no water taxis. Any visitors arrive at the airport must pre-book the transportation with their resort.
The first flights between the island and Kuala Lumpur started in March 2004 followed by flights to Singapore a year later. The journey from Kuala Lumpur takes approximately 60 minutes while it is about 80 minutes from Singapore. Redang airport was once closed for runaway expansion and reopened on April 2009. This small airport is more like an airstrip than an airport. It consists of a building where the arrival and departure halls are. There are a couple of convenient shops that sell daily esentials and souvenirs.
