Sri Petaling LRT station is a rapid transit station in Sri Petaling, a suburb about 20 km south of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The original name was Komanwel LRT station, where "Komanwel" is the Malay spelling for "Commonwealth". The station was opened in commemoration with the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. Sri Petaling, also known Bandar Baru Seri Petaling is a sub-urban area situated in Kuala Lumpur. It is based in the south of the city and located near Happy Garden, Kuchai Lama and Bukit Jalil. This little town was first launched back in 1977 and got developed in 1981 to what it is today. Before, Sri Petaling was just rubber plantation estates. From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, it was widely known as the ‘rubbish area’ as it was the main location of a landfill site. But it was then discontinued and made into a playground and a car park area to get ready for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Today, Sri Petaling is a vibrant, self-contained suburban township with excellent infrastructure. Thanks to the LRT system and the easily accessible highways, Sri Petaling is slowly gaining its popularity as one of KL most important cities.
If you are traveling by air, nearest airport is the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (IATA: KUL, ICAO: WMKK), which is an international airport, located in Sepang, Selangor. Both terminals, KLIA and KLIA2 airport are located about 30 minutes to Sri Petaling LRT.
The main LRT station that serves Sri Petaling is located in Sri Petaling itself following the Sri Petaling and Ampang Line. But visitors can choose to drop off at the Bukit Jalil Station that is located at the stadium or the Awan Besar station that has buses commuting to Sri Petaling.
Literally one of the biggest stadiums, in the region, Bukit Jalil National Stadium is a multipurpose stadium that can accommodate up to 80 thousand strong and its expected to boost even larger audience after the completion of the Kuala Lumpur Sports City project. There are a multitude of facilities available in the complex such as grass pitches, synthetic and warming up tracks, broadcast studios and coloured video matrix scoreboards. After finishing being the host for the 1998 Commonwealth Games, this stadium is used as a home stadium for the national football team. Nonetheless, the stadium is also open to public on normal occasions and facilities are available for them to use.
